No one maintains on 300 kCal.

Maybe you should do some reading on what hypometabolic means.

People with eating disorders tend to gain weight very quickly b/c they become hypometabolic and their body stops burning calories.

I haven't made any personal attacks on you. I merely pointed out that most of the stuff you say doesn't add up and that you are seeking attention. As Lynn said, no one "maintains" on 300 calories a day.

People have given you a great deal of good advice, yet everything that is suggested you have an excuse for not doing. When a normal person is hurt so bad they say they can't move and are in tears, they don't spend time on a message board asking if they should go to the ER. If they are in that much pain, you aren't sitting in front of a computer, especially when they were recently told they have a fractured vertibra. Did you consider that you could have worsened it? Did you think about the fact that your vertibra protect your spinal cord and if one is broke, something could shift and paralyze you?

You said the doctor told you no exercise for 8 weeks, yet you are going for walks, which is exercise. So you either are being dishonest about what the doctor told you or you are once again ignoring doctors instructions.

When you were in so much pain, why didn't you call your doctor and ask them what you should do?

You are willfully damaging your health and giving every excuse not to stop purging, not to eat a healthy diet, not to exercise. That's not a personal attack, that's facts based on what you have written here.

You keep saying I say things I haven't. You have serious issues. Either you are unable to comprehend what you are reading or you are flat out lying.

The doctor didn't say I couldn't exercise at all. He didn't say I had to be on bed rest. He just said that PT would be too dangerous right now. I only walked a few extra steps than I normally would have.

I couldn't call the doctor at 9 pm. They close at 4.

While you hold these beliefs, your situation is hopeless.

Then explain why I have gained weight while in hospital settings if it's not true. Last time I was in the hospital, I gained 12 lbs in a week. Mostly water weight but still. Couldn't get the hospital dietitian to give me actual healthy food that weren't packed full of sodium.

You can contact your doctor at any time in an emergency.

Your metabolism problem is something you created. The only way to fix it is to suck it up and start eating. Take responsibility for what you did to yourself and work towards fixing it.

My reading comprehensions is just fine, along with everyone else who says the same things I am. The difference is I don't feel sorry for your ill health. This isn't something that just happened to you, you caused it.

Now I'm going to say something you are going to think is being mean but I really don't intend it that way. You are already over three hundred pounds. You broke your metabolism and are continuing to damage your body. The only way to fix it involves a temporary weight gain. You are assuming that you will gain a couple hundred pounds but you don't know that for certain. When this fracture heals, you have two choices, keep whining and crying while you do nothing but more damage or accept responsibility for yourself and start eating a proper diet and work extra hard to restart your metabolism. If you do nothing you will die morbidly obese, and it will be suicide. If you choose to take responsibilty, you will gain weight, but you will lose it when you stop thinking you know it all and wallowing inself pity. You are already over 300 pounds, if you are over 400 it isn't going to make that much difference, and the facct that you will be eating right and busting your ass to lose it will pay off in the long run.

Don't want to eat 1500 calories a day? Then don't. Eat a thousand. Of the right food. Build your calories slowly if you have to, adding a hundred every few days while your stomach learns to accept food.

But if you aren't willing to do that, then stop whining and crying about your ill health, gaining weight or anything else. People who aren't willing to change don't get to bitch about their situation, especially when it is self imposed.

If I call the doctors office after hours the phone says to either call back during regular business hours or go to the ER if it's an emergency.

I have tried so many times to slowly increase my calories but I just continue to gain and gain....it never stops. That's how I've gotten this big. I used to be 125-130. :(

DP, one thing you want to check out with a specialist if you should have the heat pads on, some conditions can be made worse long term by applying heat, for some an ice pack is actually better, despite the heat feeling good...

As for your metabolism, you have to slowly increase your burn rate, what you are doing now is starving your body of nutrients, your body is programmed to take the maximum calories out of everything because it gets so little, you could slowly start with a bit of ginger, cinnamon, apple vinegar and slightly increase your intake, especially the proteins, you want something that is sustainable and not some of those quick fad diets where you lose a bit quickly, then put it back on as soon as you start eating normally and mess up your metabolism in the process. A lot of people get fat from diets by ruining a healthy metabolism by slowing it down. You need a proper nutritionist to get yours back on track and reverse.

My doctor told me heat is okay. He knows I use the heating pad and biofreeze. Cold makes my bones throb.

I'm having a protein shake everyday now. And then greek yogurt and oatmeal. That's my plan for now. Will add more later.

I'm thinking your plan is pretty good. If you want, send me a note on the other side. Would it help you if we have a little chat each week and review your progress and just discuss what you might do, you know just toss ideas around and give you something to focus on? I get really cheap oversea calls, so it wouldn't be a big deal, or we could Skype. Sometimes things just work better with a sounding board.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/22/2014 10:17:40 AM)

You have to increase movement with the increase of calories. You look at yourself and say"I'm fat, I need to lose weight.," so you stop eating, but then your body starts hoarding everything you eat, slowing your metabolism. So when you eat more and gain, now you are going to have to suck it up and eat more, move more. Its simple math. Gain in the short term, lose in the long term.

Giving up is all you seem to be able to do. If you keep going how you are going, you will die and you will die a fat girl you hate the look of. Follow some good advice and yes, gain weight but as your metabolism comes back you will lose weight, and then you won't die and you will start to see someone in the mirror who didn't give up.

No decent doctor doesn't have someone on call 24 hours. No, you won't get a dermatologist orpodiatrist, but a neurologist or orthopedist? They are on call and if they aren't, switch doctors. If you can't get someone you go to the ER, and they will wake the doctor up since he/she is your doctor of record.

This emailing them and not being able to call after hours is bullshit laziness on the part of the doctor. I rarely will even leave my doctors voicemail. I leave a message with a living, breathing human being and if they transfer me to voicemail, I hang up and call back.

That's how all my doctors offices have always been except psych. Psych always has someone on call. Maybe that's just how things are done here.

Let me know when and we sort something out!

I'm actually trying join a charity fund raiser (triathlon - I'm shit scared to look a complete unfit tit) in fall and need to start training or else it's going to be so embarrassing, please remember to poke me too. Maybe we can both help each other out to stay on our goals! Sometimes a little bit of ass kicking from a friend goes a long way. Dunno about you, but knowing I will report to you, will just give me that bit of motivation that I might otherwise not have.

Seriously... Here in NH there is never anyone on call. In NJ there usually was...but in other parts of the country its not the case. Most can't afford it in a rural area, or its simply not worth it. Even some of my doctors in NJ didn't have someone there all the time.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Natural/OTC ways to treat severe pain? (2/22/2014 11:11:15 AM)

I do, but it is very vanilla, if you don't mind that... I got family and vanilla friends on FB, colleagues and clients, so I like to keep it that way, if your FB is not overly kinky, really no issues with adding you.

My old town was a very rural area. Now I'm right outside a sorta big city but they still don't.

Actually, she's correct here. With my job, I have to call a lot of doctor's offices and many times I get their answering recording that says, "The office is currently closed. Please call back during regular business hours which are.....blah blah blah. If this is a true emergency, hang up and call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room."

Unless she's an established patient with a neurologist or orthopedist who has given her permission to call after hours, they'd expect her to go to an ER to be evaluated and ER staff would call which ever neuro or ortho who is on-call.

One exception is for those who pay exhorbitant fees every month to their doctor for "concierge" service where the doctor gives them a special direct cell phone number where they, but only they, may call them whenever they want.

In many hospitals, your regular doctor doesn't even make regular hospital rounds like they used to. They now have full-time staff "hospitalists" who see the patients who are actually inpatients and act as a liason with your primary physician.

There are exceptions, but for the most part, with younger doctors, this has become the protocol now. Most doctors just aren't on-call 24/7/365 anymore unless they choose to be. And even if they do take your call, they still most likely are going to tell you to go to the emergency room or call the office in the morning to make an appointment.
