If you have an open mind you might research the circumstances of his disappearance, his writings and statements immediately before his disappearance, and what many of the former soldiers who served with him have to say.

"Former" is a key word, for fairly obvious reasons

It's almost like they became disillusioned, ain't it?

There are damn good questions we are going to want to find the answers to, but first and foremost, Bergdahl was an American soldier in enemy captivity.

And we don't leave any behind.

Are you aware of the outrages they had perpetrated against others?
Are you aware they aided, abetted, sheltered, and protected those who most certainly did attack us?

Defending the Taliban is an exercise in absurdity even for you

I'm defending no one. I'm just pointing out that we have no idea whether these guys mean us harm or not.

Here are the wonderful peaceful men we released that would never ever harm and American in the future.

Unless of course we chipped the Gitmo detainees for GPS, and can put a drone-fired missile on them any time we like...

Just a fun little thought.

Better yet…

Let them all go

Pull every soldier back to the US

Bring every missile and plane...and weapon with us.

Build a wall along the borders

Let no one in but let anyone out that wants to leave

Import nothing…export nothing… talk with no one outside our borders.

If there is something we need that we have no resources … fuck it do without and or develop alternate devices or materials.

Keep a strong military

Fuck the rest of the worthless world.

If I were king

Butch

ps... I'd let Lucy in

I'd disagree with pretty much all that, other than keeping a strong military (which we are currently not doing).

No need for special dispensation for Lucy, if she ever turns up again.

Here it is in a nutshell...let's start two more very long, very profitable wars founded on lies and when our people are taken...we will once again not negotiate with their captors.

You know, I'm probably more qualified to speak about these 5 enemy combatants than anyone else on this site -- I'm also the least able to. I was at GITMO. I can tell you the beaches sucked, the beer was cold, and the fishing was good. I can also say I was assigned to Camp Delta 1 and 2 in a supervisory capacity of the guard force in the early years. I saw their files and many other ones. None of these prisoners should of been released. I don't care what promises were made by the Qatar government, these 5 have been wanted back by the Taliban for quite a while and with reason. They will resurface in Afghanistan again and it will not be good for the stability of the government -- not that it's that stable to start with. I also know some you have the luxury of taking the high ground on how these individuals should be treated with our ideas of civil rights and due process. Let me tell you, they would slit your f'ing throats in a heartbeat. Those are concepts that are lost on them.

Now while down there, our job was to secure and safeguard them in accordance with the Geneva Conventions (despite what many said about them not applying), the Articles of War, and US law. We did that and we did it in nothing less than a professional manner with the prisoners under our control. I can say I was proud of my troops then, and my old unit is currently back there conducting the same mission with the same degree of professionalism. Now, ask me personally what should be done with these prisoners, and I will tell you a bullet in the back of the head of the majority of them. Could I play God and decide? Absolutely, and not lose a moment of sleep over it.

Yes, FDD, he was. We set the bar for treason very high in this country, and we operate on innocent until proven guilty.

Short of showing up chanting to 'death to America" and shooting an AK-47 on the Bowe al-Amriki YouTube channel, he is first and foremost an American soldier.

The question is how do you determine collaboration? Was McCain a collaborator? He signed a confession.

But no matter under what circumstances he left that FOB he was still one of ours and we don't leave any behind.

I liked some of the corral sand beaches...and the Navy food was pretty good too... of course that was 40 years ago.

Thanks for the interesting perspective.

It was always humid as hell when I was there. I liked Roosevelt Roads better. More to do.

I've always thought it was a shame it got turned into a prison though.

An absurdity, n'est ce pas, akin to picking up a turd by the clean end.
No wonder you jerk so violently at the mere (undirected) use of the word: Islamapologist.

You do understand that before we attacked the Taliban they had never attacked us?

I have to say I find it really amusing to watch someone who keeps crying about the gop's supposed war on women, but has not problems defending this group.

You might want to get your head out of your ass.

There is a big difference between stating facts and defending these guys.

We did not leave any known POW's in Vietnam. The claims that we did have been investigated and found to be untrue, even that site says so. I'd damn well like to get every remains back as well but that may simply be impossible. Bodies rot in a jungle really fast and thoroughly.
