Feminist conference asks attendees to use “Jazz Hands” because applause is “triggering anxiety”

Some delegates are requesting that we move to jazz hands rather than clapping, as it's triggering anxiety. Please be mindful!

You can't make this shit up.

In the Star Trek episode, "A Wolf In The Fold" they used little lights, mounted on the tables in the café. Maybe we could suggest that?

A wooden teepee erected Wednesday, March 4, as part of a Santa Barbara City College art project was dismantled the following Monday after Native American students complained . . . In an email sent out to the entire campus, Gaskin formally apologized to the Native American community for the perceived insult. ~Santa Barbara Independent

The acceptance of this ‘art piece’ is a mockery of my people. By allowing this its making it okay for anyone, anywhere to exploit my culture, tradition, and me for their benefit. ~Native News

I've heard of this before, such as in situations where a speaker or performer might be deaf or hard of hearing. They can't hear the applause, but they can see the hands waving. I've never heard it called "jazz hands" before.

The deaf and hard of hearing can't see people clapping? Seriously?

I'm not making it up. That's what I was told at a work seminar where we were educated in the culture of deaf and hard of hearing people.

They can't hear, or are hard of hearing. Therefore, as a part of sign language, jazz hands are the accepted way to clap and show respect to the person, or event. A clap is useless and considered bad form. Just like assuming all deaf people can read lips, or if you yell loud & slow enough they'll somehow hear you.

Yes that one qualify for the Perpetually Offended. =)
And that knee cap reaction actually might also be counter productive, since at a place like a campus it could actually be a good thing to show that there's a native presence there and in the area. Then again, the 'tepee' which is for a prairie tribe might have been a less good choice, now we see the ocean in the background it is more likely the original settlers lived in other kinds of dwellings.

Yeah, every time I see a colonial, I get pissy because I was actually raised in a split-level ranch. The fucking gall of some people!

Every time a builder/developer puts up a group of those Hovnanian colonials, they're insulting my Brooklyn guinea heritage! I'll sue you all, damn it!

Only struck me last night: are there still places that sell 'Freedom Fries' instead of 'french fries' out there? That always did give me a chortle.

this was on the Kelly file last night:

School Cancels ‘American Pride’ Themed Prom After It’s Deemed Not ‘Inclusive’

(EAG News) - Lexington, Massachusetts may have played host to one of the first battles of the American revolution, but 240 years later, “American pride” is considered offensive to the school system.

Students on the dance committee at Lexington High School voted for “American Pride” to be the theme of this year’s prom, which was scheduled to be held April 10.

But administrators overruled that decision, saying it “excludes” other nationalities and canceled the dance.

Americans are always happy to provide you Brits with a little entertainment now and then to offset the depressing effect of being at constant risk of hitting your noses on door lintels.

It excludes other nationalities? What country are they living in, for fuck's sake? This IS America. It is not France, it is not Ireland, it is not Spain, It is not Australia, it is not India, etc. If you are going to an American School, paid for with American taxpayers' dollars, in a country called America and you do not have pride in being an American, you have a problem.

Interesting story about French Fries (which I've always just called "fries"). They were not "invented" in France. They were "invented" in Germany but when someone tried to bring the idea to this country, we were at war with Germany (WWI, bailing out Europe for the first time) and the American people didn't warm to "German Fries".

We picked France because we knew they would even have the balls to sue over it; much less anything worse than court action.

The perpetually offended atheist group known as the Freedom from Religion Foundation tried to stop a Christmas parade in a small town because the town DARED to put Christ back in Christmas.

While I remember reading about that shit on the internet, I never actually found a place that really did it. So in this area I would have to say no. And I agree, I thought it was pretty laughable too.
