ORIGINAL: BamaD FR Obama had his anti gun speach ready and gave it before they even knew how many people were shot. But don't worry, that isn't making political hay out of a tragedy. Our nation's president always has a speech when serious tragedy occurs. And he's had to give this same speech how many times since he's been in office? Nothing has changed in regards to the laws since the last time. We are absolutely no further along in preventing another senseless waste of human life. I'm all for responsible gun ownership. I actually have quite a few myself, left to me by my father when he passed. But we need a comprehensive course of action here, with all parts of government coming together with viable solutions. Pay for police officers to guard our schools. Tighten up background checks. Maybe require drug testing for gun permits? Not always an indicator, but wtf, right? All three sound good. The drug testing could be problematic. If you make the buyer pay for it you could have a 5th amendment violation. If the locals put drug users that they pick up in the system it would help. Just like if Dr were required to notify the police when they see that someone is dangerous, like in Aurora, the shrink knew he was a menace and if that had been in the system he couldn't have legally bought his guns. The first thing we need to do is somehow get people to put the required information in the system. The guy in Charleston was able to buy a gun because the locals didn't put his drug use in the system, that would have disqualified him. Politicians are more interested in passing new laws than they are in making the ones we have work.
