One thing I've never seen in the obituaries; "He died of second-hand smoke."

You never see it say that someone died of stupidity either.  That hardly means it wasn't a contributing factor.

So if someone dies of lung cancer etc., no worries, as long as the cause of death doesn't say how they got that condition?

You rarely see 'He died of someone else's stupidity' in the obits either, but it happens with great regularity.

You do so too. It's refered to being killed by a drunk driver.

You're more likely to find that in the headlines, than seriously listed as 'cause of death'.

Perhaps in the USA but not here in Australia and there have been cases cited where the deceased died from inhaling tobacco smoke in a work place causing lung cancer and in each case there has been serious litigation.. These things do not happen often but they do happen..

All the science aside; no one has the right to impinge on how I enjoy a night out in public. This most certainly includes smokers. The whiny brats, obnoxious slaves to their cell phones, drunks, twittering ninnies that think their conversation is so fascinating that they have to share it with the entire store/restaurant/theater, etc. I pay good money, just like every/anyone else. I'm entitled to some peace and relaxation. So if that means a smoker has to get his jones on outside the establishment? Tough.

As to taxes? If you're going to have a habit? Own up to all it entails. I don't enjoy paying $40/pound for Godiva when I want a treat, but I don't whine about it.

You don't see obituaries state that people die of AIDS.  There is a difference between what is counted by the coroners office and then tracked by the CDC and government as a cause of death and what is reported in a newspaper.

But don't cop out by saying that smoking doesnt harm life... or that cars are worse.  Doesn't really matter how little effect its having, it is still having an effect.

Everything has an effect.  Drinking alcohol rots your liver, eating chocolate rots your teeth and affects your heart. The Sun can give you cancer. Almost everything you eat has a negative effect somewhere along the line.  Stay indoors, in a smoke free environment if you want to but even that won't work since you'll probably need to walk past smokers, cars and sunlight to buy some food.

You can't live a life avoiding things that affect you one way or another.  Second hand smoking is such a small risk in the grand scheme of things that smokers can be forgiven for thinking "This is just an over-dramatised witch hunt because you don't smoke"

Have you ever tried a night out in a public library?  No smoking, no phones, no drunks, no whiny people, no talking and providing you whisper, you can bitch all you like.

The CDC also counts smoking as the cause of death for smokers regardless of what they die from. Just another way to pad the statistics to advance their agenda. The truth is, smokers have a 1 in 3 chance of dying of smoking. But if you are a smoker, and die of a heart attack, then smoking killed you as far as the CDC is concerned.
And it is amazing to me how many people feel that it is okay to outlaw something because they don't like it.

Never said you shouldn't.  But at least take responsibility for your own action, don't try and fob it off like some lesser evil.  But then, chocolate is rotting your own teeth, not someone elses.  Drinking only rots YOUR liver.

Yes but bouncing off the bumper of a drunk driver probably hurts your liver too.

I can honestly say i've never heard of someone smashing a glass in another person's face because they'd smoked too many cigarettes.  It happens somewhere every day through alcohol.
