That's what always says he is drinking.
It makes you wonder if that is all he has?
Perhaps he drinks the whole bottle or box.

in Britain and no amount of Tory inflicted victimization will have them voting Labour.

They unwittingly vote for less hope

They look up to the posh people living in nice houses with two new cars sitting in the drive and they are impressed.

Working class Tories know their place and will happily defend anyone with a sense of entitlement.

They play the Lotto twice a week and look up to people like David Beckham and Sir Alan Sugar because they represent hope. .

I wouldn’t call this type of working class conservative; they’re just sleep walking in the matrix.

All of the above are your words so own the fuckers, arsehole.

I don't know what working class part of England you think you understand, but none of the above would apply to where I come from.

Me, I'm a northern lass born and bred.

You’re working class but you vote conservative. Well you've either done rather well for yourself (maybe you even bought your council house) or your living in the matrix. Either way, you don't hold the intelligence to get the irony of my former post

Except I've never voted for the Conservative Party in my life, nor have I bought a council house or live in a council house.

Nor were you being ironic.

Agreed, unless you have a skill with a ball on a playing field or court or with a musical instrument or your voice it is unlikely you will rise from the working class here in the States.

I don't think that's the case here, Vincent.

I've always worked hard and always give things a good go - and so I'm pretty comfortable in life.

Could I have done better? Probably not, but that's more to do with limited intelligence than it is to do with being from a working class background.

I've probably achieved what I was capable of achieving all things considered - were I more intelligent I could have achieved more and a working class background wouldn't have held me back from that.

I was never going to be the Prime Minister with my accent, nor would I have fitted in at places such a Cambridge and Oxford universities - but then who would want to mix with a load of toffs anyway - that's a different world to where I come from.

So you don’t vote conservative and you’ve never bought a council house.

Why do so many people who work for less than a living wage think the Tories are the dogs bollocks?

Good question. Some people find it useful to pose the question thus: "Why do we/people desire our/their own repression?".

Here it's called aspirational politics. People make their choices not on facts, or the reality of the situation, but on the emotional basis of which side they believe better enables the kind of things that they hope or aspire for. It manages to combine selfishness and romanticism in a rather muddled fashion. People who live in horrible dives dream about living in a mansion, and believe that if they work hard enough for it, it can happen. In newer more dynamic societies like Australia or the USA these aspirations have more chance of success than in older more traditional societies like those in Europe.

But the overall reality is that most aspirational voters never have their aspirations fulfilled, but the people they trust to deliver those aspirations - the already rich and powerful, the 1% - manage to do very well for themselves while others wait and wait and wait .....

Speaking of mysteries, why do you make little sense and why are you asking me to provide an answer to your nonsensical conundrums?

Were you to get out into the world you'd find that 'so many people' do not think 'the Tories are the dogs bollocks'. This state of affairs doesn't exist outside of your mind.

That's pathetic and there's not much worse than bullying.

But, it is a tiny % of the country doing these things.

And, lets be honest here, we have a far better record with race relations than the European continent.

It doesn't excuse it at all, they're idiots and it wouldn't be the world in the event there weren't a few idiots living in it, but keep it in perspective.

The most economically impoverished part of England is the North East, and I'd imagine at least 85% of those from this region who vote in general elections vote for the Labour Party, not the Tories.

In the real world, Maria's question isn't a good one.

It seems to me that Maria's question is a very pertinent one, especially if one wishes to understand why all those Labour voters in the NE were persuaded by right wing demagogues like Farage and UKIP to commit economic hari-kari.

That's about as real world as it gets.

Economic hari-kari is your assumption, Tweak. Neo-Liberal economics has killed the working class. Here in the States as well. There is always hope but if you keep voting for the same bunch and get the same results it is the definition of crazy. The only alternative then is to erect the barricades.

You really do need to knock that big chip off your shoulder mate and remember, it was you who threw the first rock.
If you can’t debate without persistently flinging unintelligent insults, then maybe you should find another hobby.

There are some very impoverished parts of the South East as well as London and its surrounding districts. Having worked on two general election campaigns, I know a lot of working poor will slam the door in a Labour candidates face.

Unlike NG, I've lived in both Lancashire and Yorkshire. I've lived up in the Highlands and I've lived in the east end of London. I've worked with the homeless, many of whom have learning difficulties or mental illness, I've volunteered in food banks and I now work one day a week for citizen's advice. I think I can safely say I live in the real world.
