Oh, and with the multitude of things that 'black players' could have pulled the race card on many times before, it's only for Kaepernick that they would do that just now?

You are ten times more stupid than I initially thought.

The 49ers would take a cap hit of ~ $16 million if they dumped him this season. It would be ~$4.6 million if they did it next year, which they were/are likely to do in any case, having zilch and nada to do with his seating arrangements during the national anthem.

Again, how is Kaeps' actions increasing his market value? And please, for your own sake, just STFU about 'black players' backing him in the event SF cuts him loose. 1,000 players get cut after training camp, every year.

The automatic support of the black players was ML's point not mine.
It isn't increasing his value one cent and I never said it did), in fact it is hurting the value of the league.
DS is far from the only one who will not watch the NFL this season, revenues are based on rating.

Before we get to the 'martyr' part, explain for the audience here just how this would 'extend his payday.'

A couple of points.

First, the right to protest is part of the package of rights guaranteed by the US constitution. People fail to understand that while the flag is a symbol, that's pretty much all it is. It symbolises America and mythologising the flag takes away from the fact that it is simply a representation of the country itself. Men didn't die for the fucking flag, they died for America, for the people that make up the nation.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that in many aspects, America has lost its way. It's become an increasingly secular society devoted to the pursuit of the almighty dollar at any cost. Remember, the entire foundation of the Republic - it's entire ethos - is to protect the minority from the majority. That is the quintessential difference between a democracy and a republic and America is currently failing as a republic.

Kaepernik is protesting the failure of the American republic. America is failing its African American citizens. And not to put too fine a point on it, increasingly it's failing its men and boys.

You're outraged by an mixed-race African American protesting the flag, but are you outraged at the laws which put so many African Americans in prison for trivial offenses, while the white motherfuckers who caused the financial crisis and resulted in millions of lost homes and jobs got away scot-free?

Are you outraged at the profiteering of the firearm manufacturers who stoke fears using the NRA so more of you buy guns you don't fucking need? Are you outraged at the 32,500 handgun deaths a year caused by the proliferation of firearms in the populace?

Are you outraged at the corruption of your representatives who do the bidding of big corporations? Are you outraged at trade agreements written by those same corporations which screw over the average American?

Are you outraged at the NFL which makes fucking billions per year but insists that cities have to build stadiums they can't afford? (That's YOUR tax dollars at work, by the way - subsidising a multi-billion dollar corporation which exploits the players, the fans and the cities stupid enough to host its games).

Are you outraged at the fucking NCAA exploiting the living fuck out of college athletes and making billions while the athletes get fucking nothing?

No. You're outraged at a sole African-American making a symbolic protest. Your outrage, dude, is a fucking failure of perspective. You're like a Republican that rages against the evils of Mexicans and single mothers while approving billions of dollars in tax-breaks and other corporate welfare.

There's a lot of issues in America which should stoke your outrage, but this is not fucking one of them.

And second: It's fucking football. It's a sport, a game. It doesn't fucking matter at all.

Again. Some FUCKING perspective would be useful, here.

Where where the bodies stackup in the streets.
The two that come to mind are Budapest, but that doesn't count because it was white authorities killing white people, and China but of course Asians killing asians.
Closest we have come here was Dallas, but that was ok because it was cops being murdered by a black sniper.
The NFL was going to penalize the Cowboys for honoring the dead cops in a PRESEASON GAME.

I don't fall in 100% with Kaepernick's mode of action, only because it drags people like you from under the rocks, as distraction from the actual cause under consideration.

But you are welcome to enlighten us as to why you are so enthralled with the NFL disallowing a display of testament to victims of ONE black guy shooting every white/black/yellow/tan colored cop he could fire upon, vs, the seemingly innumerable only black guys that seemingly only white cops shoot at.

I supported both of those incidents citing that nothing in the constitution guarantees anyone a job. In fact, the only guarantee of continued employment is making and keeping one's boss happy.
So, Michael, why bring up the 9/11 tragedy and the Constitutional protection from the government when your beef is with the NFL? None of that was pertinent to your main point.

And btw, if your beef is with the NFL why have you titled this thread with so many disparaging words against a single player?

Well for starters the % of people shot by cops is considerably lower that the % of violent crimes commited by blacks so your basic primise is false.
And the reason is that the NFL is taking sides. If one view can't be expressed neither can. They are a sports organization, not a political one.

I disagree with Michael and everyone else who has agreed with his comments.

Kaepernick can in fact be punished by the NFL for his actions. Consequently he is NOT protected by the Constitution.

The NFL could suspend him, i think. Give a thought to the overwhelming number of black players in the league. Can you imagine their reaction to such a penalty? The NFL would be rubbing salt into the grievances felt by many in the black communities over the shootings that have taken place.

The notion that Kaepernick has disrespected the troops who died for our freedoms to speak out is bogus. I see no circumstance in the last 70 years where this country was in existential jeopardy. According to reports in the media all of that patriotism before NFL games was purchased by the DOD. It is all about propaganda and manufacturing our consent to enable the ever growing DOD budget. It is a manufactured patriotism.

Highlighted part that is how he will paint anything that happens to him so yes you did.

Or maybe outrage at the protest is a way to deflect the flaw of racism in America. Protesting the protest and the protestors allows white Americans the comfort of retaining their blinders. Instead of dealing with the reason for the protest Michael turns his little gun on the NFL (like they are going to give a shit)

Uhmm. . . can you point to the word "automatic?" No, you can't. The clear implication is that the League is aware they have a large number of black employees and a community of fans they would offend. I think that punitive action by the League would be seen as more racism. I doubt the NFL can go down that road.
