I was raised catholic, so I know that all too well.

This old geezer marries a young hottie. After a bit she tells him she is knocked up and it was the angel of the lord.
Old geezermakes thinks it over and weighs his options then he tells the bitch he is pretty sure it was the cable guy or the pool boy. Not wishing to pass on young tight squack he cancels the cable and fires the pool boy and keeps a closer eye on his bitch. Or you can go with the angel story and the virgin birth fairy tale.
What would you do?
My money is on the former.

Well just to be precise, your retelling of the story leaves out a detail....

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. ~Matthew 1:19-20

Blaming a slutty wife on god certainly gets joe off the hook of public humiliation of being cucked by the pool boy now desn't it?
Considering that the bible was written after the fact it would be more than a little difficult to pimp the "mesiah" as the bastard son of the pool boy. Being the son of god plays a whole lot better dontcha think?

If you choose to believe that the bastard your wife is carrying was put there "magically" by your imaginary friend and not the pool boy that is your business. I took anatomy and physiology in school where the myth of the "stork" was thouroughly debunked... my money is on the pool boy.
Quoting "scripture to me is about as effecrive as quoting from a superman comic. I do not share your belief in magic.

Fine. Most Muslims aren't true Muslims, then.

All we need to do now is work out the difference between the trueys and the non-trueys, and then we can start talking rationally, at last, about who's a potential danger and who isn't.

We could always put a star on their belly.

Well, in ordinary circumstances I would agree with you. But, if I had a vision of an angel telling me what Joseph was told, I think I'd at least have to consider it. If you don't believe that things happen in this world that are unexplainable -- even impossible -- in the context of our current scientific understanding, you just aren't living in reality.

Again I'll agree with you. Pointing out your misrepresentation of the circumstances may indeed have no effect. But I don't believe in "magic" either. I just think that we still have a lot to learn about ourselves and our world.

I wonder who conducted the interview where Joseph told them about the dream he had.

I have read too many of your post to believe you would give any credence to a dream. I could be wrong but I do not think so. Me and thee have disagreed on more than one subject but while I may think you are mistaken in many areas I do not think you are stupid.

If you
don't believe that things happen in this world that are unexplainable -- even impossible -- in the context of our current scientific understanding, you just aren't living in reality.

I have experienced more than a few of those "unexplainable events" My response to them is simply that I do not understand them. I do not automatically blame them on an imaginary friend.

My interpratation is a more rational explanatrion of the circumstance than is the "angel of god" scenario.
As to the "a lot to learn" part I could not agree more.

Wait a minute here. Are they trying to tell us that a carpenter got married and was not fucking his olady ? Is that what they say ?

And old geezers can fuck. I got a friend who is 68 and still fucking 25 year olds regularly. He is pretty healthy.

And carpenters back then had to be strong because there were no power tools.

Your estimation of others' intelligence is of no concern.

On this, I can agree. If you took a smartphone back to the middle ages you would probably be burned as a witch.

Religion has slowed the development of mankind quite rudely. Also hierarchies, with Ptolemy in the superior position, Kopernikus gets ignored. Well IIRC the history on that he finally did get published but he was blind and on his death bed by that time.

Bottom line is there is no religion of peace. A glimpse of that is shown in the joke piece about "Is hell exothermic or endothermic ?". Only your religion goes to heaven, all others go to hell. If that isn't a bunch of bullshit I don't know what is.

Obviously not since jesus had older siblings.

I am 72 and as long as my welfare cheque holds out the 25 year olds at the butt hut put up with me.

Dislikes religion:
Christianity - a collection of books-stories-many sources-many pilfered from time immemorial & some, not all, made the cut, dont get me wrong some of the stories in the testament of olde intrigue me although they have origins elsewhere
Islam - live in a cave, the writing of one man - the last - final prophet (how convenient, what if god decides another)- god spoke to me. You get locked up for that nowadays, god made me do it, commanded me.

Nope. Even today people fear what they don't understand. Back then they blamed "the devil" for what they did not understand.

That type of idiocy still lives in the people who think that hurricanes are caused by Gays in the military.

Now THAT is phoquing stupid.

Can you imagine what would happen if aliens, I mean extra terrestrial aliens came to this planet right now ? Ever see the movie "Day The Earth Stood Still" ? governments are so paranoid about being out of power that I think a similar thing would happen. They would surround the ship with all kinds of tanks n shit only to found it was useless and they should have made friends instead of antagonizing the visitors.

Actually, two things about that. There are two scenes missing, one is where that Woman wants to go back with Klatu and the other is where the Russian delegate says "Russia will never agree to it" and Klatu replies "Then there will be no Russia". There are a few other things that have been edited, probably for political reasons. Like Star Trek - Piece Of The Action. The scene where a hooker complains to one of the guys with the machine guns about a streetlight being out and he tells her "Tell it to the boss". I saw this a long time ago before they edited it, and I am not imagining things.

Well the same shit happened to the Bible. What the fuck is a King James version ? Who the fuck is the leader of a country, member of a royal welfare recipient family get the right to edit the word of god ?

the king james version is an English translation, not an "editing."

and to be clear, the work of the translation was commissioned and supported by the king, not DONE by him. it took dozens of scholars a handful of years to do it.

you can only say "the same shit happened to the bible" if you can show how meaningful information exists in the original Hebrew, greek and Aramaic, but then does not show up in the English versions.
