"kittywumpus" & "wonky" describing something "discombobulated"

cant Wwe just say "broken"?

Something that is wonky is not necessarily broken. After all it is possible to have a wonky leg without it actually being broken.

To someone outside the U.S., anyone from here is a Yankee.
To someone from here, it refers to a person from the Northeast.
To a Northeasterner, it's someone from New England.
To a New Englander, it's a Vermonter.
If you're from Vermont, a Yankee is someone from the Northeast Kingdom.

If you go by governmental designations, Maryland is part of the Southern U.S. If you suggest that anywhere in the the lower South, you will be asked "Hey, Yank, what asylum did you escape from?"

What people traditionally think of as the South is distinguished from the states like Maryland by being called the Deep South.

From my part of the world. We call all white people a standard word, "Ang Moh", which means "Red Hair", which I don't know where that come from. I wonder if there were alot of Red Head British when they colonized us in the first place.

But that's what we call all white people here regardless what hair colour they are. Totally inaccurate term ha!

In fact, to us Aussies, anyone from the US is a Yank, not a Yankee. :)

I just did a quick internet search and couldn't find it, but if anyone might like to take more time, paul Harvey did a "rest of the story" broadcast about the origin of the word "Yankees."

true or not, I don't know, but the story was very interesting.

Well, it is south of the Mason-Dixon line and would have seceded had Lincoln not intervened.

But I agree: a far cry from the Deep South.

So I had my Twinkies today.

Not as good as I remembered, but then what childhood treats are?

I remember, some years (6 or so?) back, finding Moon Pies™ on a store shelf. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

The hazy childhood memories of waking up in the middle of the night and finding my uncle, sat in my grandmother's kitchen drinking Carnation© Instant Breakfast™ and eating a Moon Pie™. The times we shared, "cheating" the rules of the house ... I distinctly remember my grandmother "chastising" Uncle Bob (who was already a PhD and a college professor) in front of me so that I would get the idea that "Midnight snacking" was frowned upon.

I bought the Moon Pies™, a gallon of 2% milk, and some Hershey's© chocolate syrup (Instant Breakfast™ went to shit, years ago, when they attempted to become "healthy").

Disappointed isn't the word ... the pies were dry and crumbled ... nothing like what they used to be.

Such is life, I suppose.

What does Carrot Cake mean in Singapore? Look Below! Hehe! This is what we call Carrot Cake! It's one of my favourite break fast food! I eat this almost everyday as a kid for breakfast.

This is a Chinese Carrot Cake too, but should be more common in most Chinese Tim Sum Restaurants all over the world.

A friend of mine who was working in Hong Kong insisted that it's because there's some sort of Chinese ghost or demon or somesuch that looks just like a normal person but with red hair.

The word for white people in Hong Kong is Guai Lo, which means "Ghost". Also Ghosts are suppose to be pale and white skin. If you watch chinese movies, all the ghosts skin are painted snow white.

I think if you think of ghost in the traditional white sheets like KKK lol, which actually, KKK does dress like ghosts! Just saying! I guess their term might be more appropriate. Like Casper the friendly ghost?

Our Term Ang Moh is Hokkien. And Hong Kong Term Guai Lo is Cantonese.

In Singapore, we have more majority Hokkien speakers than Cantonese speakers.

Thanks for clearing that up. I've watched enough batshit Shaw Brothers horror films that the pale ghosts thing should have occurred to me.

You're not a comics character, then?
(As a British person of a certain age, the only time I ever heard of the things was adverts in Marvel and DC comics: the whole Harvey Milk thing passed me by at that age...)
