TreSwank -> Artsy Bastards (7/24/2006 11:48:26 PM)

For the last couple years, New London, CT, has been trying it's gosh-darn best to move forward, towards "gentrification" and urban renewel- part of which has included a campaign to hype this shitty little whaling village as a bohemian art-community (or a pre-commercialized, Greenwich Village ripoff).

The latest development in this dubious little fucktard scheme was the posting of huge billboards, sporting blown up pics of "respected" New London locals.  One of the most striking photos is that of an elderly, and distinguished-looking African American gentleman, gazing off into the distance like Jesus Christ in one of those three-hour, made for T.V. snooze-fests. Every last one of those pretentious art-fart dickheads goes ape-shit over that particular photo.

While TreSwank did a little stint barbacking part-time in one of the local piss-ant dives, the old fella on that fucking billboard must have offered me his pension money for hot, young boy-love on at least seven or eight different occasions. I wonder if any of those pseudo-urbane, washed-out, hipster fucks would have plastered his face on a prominent New London landmark if they had realized that this old bastard tried to solicit anal sex from any cute, younger kid in a wifebeater and denim..  Apparently, the word in the grapevine is that this persistent son of a gun has been at it for years, even before his wife bought the farm.  The thing that pisses me off the most, is that this old, knock-kneed bastard actually thought that I might do some hustling on the side.  WHAT A SKEEVEBALL!!!!

The BIG POINT of this little anecdote, is that even morally deplorable assholes can rise to prominence, if things are left in the hands of artsy bastards..............................and that gentrification in New London is a huge, fucking joke.

So?  Expose the situation to light.  You were apparently victimized and sufficiently traumatized.

LaTigresse -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 8:22:54 AM)

passing collection plate for the counseling..........

gooddogbenji -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 8:29:22 AM)

Awwww....  poor guy.  Did the man say bad things to you?  You didn't want to hear those things, did you?

Here's the thing - he's allowed to want anal sex from anyone he wants, just as you're allowed to want it, and anyone else.  Leave the guy his freedom to do his thing, and others might leave it to you.

Get over this incident, and probably yourself, too.

Yours,

benji

Gauge -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 10:09:47 AM)

If the man tried to do something illegal then you have a gripe. If he just wanted to find another adult male to have relations with, what's the big deal?

A bisexual or gay man? Let me put on my shock face! It is time to place yourself firmly in the 21st century and come to grips that there are people like this. As repugnant as you might find it, it is no more deplorable than a guy going into a bar and asking the bartender where he can find female attention.

If no laws were broken, there is no call for your tirade.

Oh, I am artistically inclined. I am a musician and a writer.

I think that you guys are missing the point.  I'm sure that, if a WOMAN had been offered money for sex, without putting out any such mixed messages, it would have been taken in offense.  "Oh my God...................this guy thinks I'm a whore."  I am positive that every, kiss-ass, faux-sympathetic male would offer his support and kind words, and cop a big bad woman protector stance-"Don't worry Amy, I'll kick his ass if he does it again."

No, I was not traumatized by the event (this is in the HUMOR section, mind you), or offended by this guy's sexual orientation, but I was EXTREMELY taken aback by his untactful way of going about things (offering a RANDOM young lad money for ass-love.)   The point of this article was to show that, in this horrible and squalid shit town, a man who spends his spare time prowling around in the night and trying to pick up boy tricks with his pension check can have his face plastered on a billboard, and gushed over by aging hipsters.

MMMMudd -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 10:37:13 AM)

Yup, morally deplorable people have risen to prominance on many occasions. Actually I think it's kind of an requirement.

hmmm... Mature distigushed artsy type you say? Perverted? 'Scuse me I gotta adjust ma seat.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 10:42:53 AM)

How is this even a topic of conversation?  I mean, girls in bars are probably offered money/drinks/tips for sex every night.  So?  Who gives a flying fuck?  Because it happened to a young, non-distinguished, wannabe artsy hipster it's a big deal?

Wow.

Yours,

benji

Sounds like campaign time in the US to me! aka ..,,Washington DC, aka.... alot of the politicians that run this fine country.......

And after many years working in the public, quite a few of them waitressing, bartending and also managing a nightclub I cannot even begin to count the number of times I was offered some sort of financial gain for my ahhhhhh "company". I find that laughter combined with a smartass comeback works exceedingly well and never needed any assistance in deflecting said advances.

No, I do believe that you are the one missing the point. Sex being solicited for money is nothing earth shattering. What you experienced is not uncommon, but you treated it as such because it happened to you. If you want to hide behind the fact that this is posted in a humor thread that is fine, but the fact is that you have an obvious deep conviction to your stance.

stef -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 10:52:30 AM)

Why do I get the overwhelming feeling that these little tales you tell and what occurs in real life never actually intersect at any point?  LaTigresse, I hope that's a BIG collection plate you're passing around.

My vituperative stance towards art-farts is directed at middle-class to affluent, leisured white 20-somethings, and aging hipsters, that have reaffirmed the mistaken idea that "ART" is what happens when rich folks have too much time on their hands.  Before writing any of his breakthrough novels, Henry Miller wandered through the streets of Paris, a starving mendicant with a whirlwind of ideas in his noodle.  The author of "Tropic of Cancer" COULDN'T GET A FREAKIN' MEAL, and still held his art in higher regard than day-to-day financial security.  That, my friend, shatters the belief that art is the past-time of well-off, leisured white kids, and old, rich folks....................and reaffirms my personal stance that most of the local art junkies are goddam son's of bitches.

Alumbrado -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 11:14:40 AM)

You were bar-backing when you were a 'young boy'?  [sm=tongue.gif]

BTW I would suspect that this individual is hardly the Lone Ranger. People get to adopt any pretension they want while looking for an orifice.

TreSwank -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 11:16:23 AM)

Young boy was 21............................I guess that's considered young. In New London, you can't even work in a bar if you're under that age, I believe.

Alumbrado -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 11:19:19 AM)

Not by NAMBLA standards...LOL!

BTW, I totally agree with you about the arts becoming the province of bored, unoriginal,  and affluent lumpen.

Gauge -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 11:20:25 AM)

Starving artists are not uncommon. Affluent patrons of the arts are more common than not. This is a bias on your part, not an altruistic selfless concern for the welfare of some young men being solicited for sex. Make no mistake about what you have said because it is all too clear.

Whether you like the art community or you don't doesn't give you the inalienable right to blast those who are involved within it. Your choice of words was and is harsh to the extreme. If that is the way you feel about the arts, fine, but your OP was indignant because you were asked for some sex by someone now on a billboard.

TreSwank -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 11:22:51 AM)

You know what, I can see your point...................but a trick-chaser receiving his own billboard is still kind of funny, and sad.  I WANT MY OWN billboard, as a matter of fact, and my own line of t-shirts, and my ugly mug on a pin that says, "TreSwank is a cowgirl's sweetheart".

sexypet -> RE: Artsy Bastards (7/25/2006 11:32:40 AM)

Egoiste!

it would appear You have one already....

It is easy to conflate 'the arts' with the 'artsy fartsy' group which is very deserving of condemnation.

It isn't the starving guitarists who have driven the price of what used to be a workmanlike professional guitar into the 10's of thousands of dollars because of the color paint used on the assembly line that day...it is the people with the10's of thousands of dollars to spend to hang such a guitar in a glass case, or play in a band made up of  lawyers or movie stars.

Or maybe I'm just bitter because I'm not rich yet...[:D]

In New England, they sure as hell are, as are talented artists.  Out of the entire New London "counterculture" scene, I've found nothing but chaff and slacker rich kids, playing pocket pool with parental subsidies, and getting ready to jump on the next "it" bandwagon.  The only genuine, out of the loop, individual I've found in this town was a hard-core, gay Christian ascetic, who wouldn't allow me to come into his house for two days after I'd had sex with a woman, because of some obscure New Testament passages.  I miss him very much, and I wish that everyone on earth possessed that kind of sincerity and dedication.
