Thank You to Hillwilliam, who showed exactly how "thick" is an insult

epiphiny43 -> RE: Guys, is "thick" a compliment? (9/8/2017 8:19:58 PM)

Context and subculture:
I'm unfamiliar with any subculture where 'thick' about a woman is anything but a cut except urban US black culture, where female bodies seriously heavier than the mainstream are appreciated. "Baby got back!"
Mentally, it's about like 'slow' and slightly above 'retard'. Everywhere. One whose mind accepts multi-featured concepts and new thoughts Very slowly, if at all. The basic problem, and probably an insoluble one, with Democracy.
General US usage, physically, is easily seen in Craigslist>Personals everywhere, that vast demographic between HWP and BBW/fat. Self described by women with little waist, or plus sized but simply 'big' but not obese. Usually an apologetic warning they are Not 'thin'. Less appreciated if labeled such by others. Those accusing men of bias avoids the whole problem of women being far more judgmental and deliberately cruel to other women than men ever conceive of being. Women make it Personal. 53% of white American women voters selected Trump???? Over an actually competent candidate whose major liability in their eyes was being female? Like crabs in a bucket, every one complains about the glass ceiling, but who wields the knives when a woman starts to rise to the top?

"Sick", "Ill", 'mental', and such, extremely common usage in US youth free form sport culture (X-games, MTB, skate, surf, ski/snowboard, dirt bike, stance, Parkour; the whole Go Pro generation.) for extreme stunts and general risky behavior. Extreme approval, or exceptional risk gracefully conquered. Also used for describing exceptional risky situations or setups.

You guys can't be serious. No wonder this site has little to no activity. I am sure that there are other men in the world that like woman with thick legs. Do some research and you will discover that a size zero woman has not always been the status quo. Plus in a world where there are also some women into dating women....some of them may prefer a thicker woman as well.

Did you actually read the content of the tread? It's not about whether men fancy women that are not a size zero, it's about whether the way men, such as you, write/speak about women, such as myself I guess, is actually seen as a compliment, or an insult when they use the word THICK to describe our bodies. Most of us in here, ya know, those of us on the receiving end of that word 'THICK', don't appreciate it as much as some of you guys may think. That's the point you missed.

Is that general cultural thing, though, or just that Sir Mixalot record making a few black guys less uptight about outing themselves as chubby chasers?

I understand exactly what was being said. She asked if the word thick was a compliment. My answer was that in the US, normally if a guy is using the word thick then its meant as a compliment. How it is interpreted is another topic for discussion. As the title of this thread states, "Guys, is thick" a compliment?"

Except that's not how you answered the the post though. Greta didn't say 'MEN', she said 'Guys', which many of us use generic, so those of us that this 'Thick' comment gets aimed at also answered. Now, just because you may direct your comment at a woman, doesn't mean she has to be flattered by it, be that in the US, or anywhere else. In fact, you have women right in this thread from the US telling you that it's not a compliment in their eyes. Now what this has to do with this site being slow is debatable. This site is slow for a whole host of reasons, but I seriously doubt it has anything at all to do with the fact that women are unwilling to be flattered by everything a guy drops out of his mouth and considers a compliment. After all, I'm expected to be swept off my feet when some dickhead asks me if I have a daughter he can fuck, 'Coz good genes, right? [8|]

KinkyBlackMan -> RE: Guys, is "thick" a compliment? (9/9/2017 11:34:25 AM)

Needles,

My second response was actually to the person that posted just before me. A comment was made that the word "thick" came from urban culture and then they went on to say something very negative about black women. What I was attempting to say is, comments like that are what make people not want to be a part of this site. It seems to be a very common trend on this site and many others. The conversation starts out civil and then all of a sudden race gets thrown into it.

I know plenty of people, men and women that are asian, latino, black and white that have used the word thick to refer to a woman. Although, I think the comment was originally aimed at the guys since the original post said a guy is the one that used the word I was not trying to state that a woman could not comment. I was simply reading what's in the subject....."Guys, is "thick" a compliment." People have taken a simple question and ran with it, which seems to be another common trend on this site.

I am an educated man and I do not talk like this but I can use context clues to determine if a person is trying to make a compliment or not. Yes, I am a man but I have a mother, sisters, a daughter and nieces so I know that not every women appreciates a man that talks like this but it doesn't change the fact that the person was trying to give a compliment....no matter how its perceived. As you can see, my original response was simple one line response that I think its normally meant to be a compliment when used by a person in the US.

Well, as I am well into pregnancy with twins, I am undeniably thick, but still do not appreciate that fact being pointed out, so I am just going to leave this little item

Ok so I checked back and saw your original response, which is a huge general sweep for the country when you have other Americans in here saying they don't see it as a compliment.

The post I quoted starts with 'You GUYS can't be serious' That doesn't indicate that you're replying to the person above you.

You then go on with your post, and claim that there is no wonder the site is so quiet. There is nothing to indicate that your post is actually in direct response to the one above you. Notice that to prevent all confusion how I have quoted you, or at least you did mention me by name in this post, but it certainly wasn't evident that you were replying in a direct way to epiphiny43. As to your claim that they said something negative about black women, I don't believe they did. It's simply an observation that many of us are aware of, and I don't see how commenting on the fact that a larger lady is appreciated is a negative thing to say, whether she is black, white, pink, or sky blue with yellow polka dots.

Now, as to race, no-one has mentioned race at all between your first post, and the one I quoted. Here's the thing though; it's a well known fact that some black women carry their weight through their hips, just as some Latino women do. Me, I'm Greek. It's easy to see from my photo that I'm all curves, but what you don't see it that I have ass too. As the wonderful Mr ResidentSadist once said of me- I have junk in my trunk. I have always been all tits and arse. I've always had great thighs because I rode horses, and trained. It doesn't mean I want to be described as thick when actually it's rather insulting where I'm from.

When something gets put up as a post on here, most certainly as a regular, you should know damn well that everyone else is going to answer it. for the most part this has actually been well debated.

MercTech -> RE: Guys, is "thick" a compliment? (9/10/2017 9:24:23 AM)

Thick... I usually associate that with "Thick in the Head" as in "impossible to instruct in anything". Or, a stubborn refusal to learn. My Aunt is very thick when it comes to computers. <grin>

Now, "thick legs" sounds like a case of "cankles" where the calves and ankles are the same diameter. Compliment, no. Rabid beat them to the ground insult, nope.

Growing up in Detroit, I watched the compliment "thick" migrate from black culture to the hip underground 40 years or so ago. Like "phat", it is compliment on womanly curves. So in the USA, major cities, thick is a most often used as a compliment as far as I know.

As i still live in Detwaaaa Your insite is still valid and correct. Cant speak for other locals but if i had to guess, i would say take it as a compliment.

Especially, if ... well i best not say here in public! [;)]

I guess you didn't see the little icon in the bottom right corner that said who I was replying to.

Somehow I'm reminded of guys that think "I like older women" is a compliment. Just because you're unaware of how your statement will land doesn't mean that I have to accept it as a compliment.

Oh for crying out loud, do I really have to explain to you that unless, as in this case where you've actually clicked the reply to me button so that my name actually appears out of sinc, it does it automatically to the person above you, so who would know that your comment was aimed directly above? Further, YOUR POST TO THE PERSON ABOVE YOU HAD NO RELEVANCE AT ALL. You didn't mention that person, your opening comment was PLURAL and not aimed at that person at all, but to the whole thread posters, which made the rest of your comment general.

Therefore, the mistake isn't mine for taking that way, the mistake is yours for writing it that way in the first instance.

WhoreMods -> RE: Guys, is "thick" a compliment? (9/12/2017 10:09:59 AM)

Girls is "lardy fuckwit" a compliment?
Girls is "yes, I have seen those before: they're like penii, but smaller" a compliment?
Girls is "I bet the last time you were on the beach a load of lefties in Greenpeace t shirts rubbed you down with lanolin and tried to roll you back into the sea, right?" a compliment?
(Having trouble thinking of a direct analogy, but I think the point still stands...)
