So despite the fact that the article states there is no evidence to support ISIS claim, you are going with he is a white Muslim terrorist. WOW.

Unfortunately, we probably couldn't hear him yell allah ahkar just because he is 32 storeys high and in the privacy of his hotel room.

I told you guys Islam isn't a race. Just because his white doesn't mean he cannot be a converted radical Muslim, especially if he was dating a radical Muslim. People need to look into his girlfriend big time and profile her!

Why would ISIS claim he is their soldier? The world already admit that ISIS now has communication methods with their Lone Wolves that cannot be detected, so just because they found no evidence of him communicating with ISIS doesn't mean shit. And also, they should double check if his girlfriend back in Philippines is Muslim.

ISIS would claim that he's their soldier because it adds to their prestige as a terrorist group. This prestige has sunk badly because of their declining fortunes in the Middle East. They announced some time ago that they were going to beef up their tactic of radicalising people to attack in their own countries, rather than send soldiers from IS.

They've made the same claim with other attackers, though more plausibly when those attackers have at least been Muslim (especially to the ignorant, gullible and obstinately prejudiced, who can't, or won't, distinguish between a Muslim and an Islamist radical). Claiming Paddock as one of theirs, though - that stretches credulity so much that it's almost laughable. I mean, really, what next? That the next pile up on a motorway was the result of the efforts of their 'agents'? It's becoming ludicrous.

No Greta. Other than the fact that you really want to believe it,
there is absolutely no reason to think this is Islamic terrorism. That is just absolutely asinine.

FR

I've just picked this up. I have, of course, no idea how accurate it is. Maybe one or more of the gunsters here might have an opinion?

"The narrative has been that fully automatic guns have been illegal since 1986 and so gun law changes wouldn't have changed this (I've heard this 20 times today already). If these turn out to be illegal modifications, fine, I get the point. However, if these are Bump Stock or Side Fire or Trigger Crank modifications - all of which are perfectly legal because you still have to pull the trigger (but can pull it 300-700 times a minute because the modification helps you pull the trigger)... I hope we can stop calling these automatic weapons, and stop pretending these have been illegal since 1986. It is legal today to buy a AR style .223 or .308 (confirmed as used in this tragedy) and it is legal to attach a bump stock shown in the video below. Legally, an AR style .223 or .308 with a bump stock is considered a semi automatic rifle. So let's quit acting like this wacko had to be using an illegal automatic weapon. He was more likely using the weapons shown and described below. We are stupid to allow these devices (bump stocks, side fire and trigger cranks). "

Highly unlikely they were bump stock or trigger cranks. Those sorts of things are "toys" you add on to a rifle that makes it able to pull the trigger faster. Those are illegal in my state but legal in some states. I read a couple of days ago about a small firm that designed an electronic glove that helped you pull the trigger about 300 times a minute. The ATF labled the glove an automatic weapon and made it subject to regulation. The whole idea of trigger cranks and other what not is really something equivalent to a video nerd upgrading a light saber with a new crystal. Those things are fun to waste ammunition for about 15 minutes and play at "oh look it's full auto" But they really aren't affective for operating a rifle for any other purpose than making noise.

Automatic rifles are not illegal, they are regulated. The hoops make them of limited value. For instance your "permit" lists where the gun is stored and the police can inspect it at any time. Most gun guys don't want to give the police any extra power to come and inspect their stuff. Ive wasted my share of ammunition on full auto. The first bullet hits what you're aiming at and the follow up rounds climb off the target from recoil. So, basically, you waste everything after the first round on making noise. That's pretty expensive and after a couple of minutes the fun tarnishes. My hunting buddy has spent a lot of time in the American military in combat. He says he never went into combat with his M-4 on burst. If you weren't aiming and shooting the first shot you missed anyway and wasting ammunition in combat is a sin...unless you're a Marine and you're told, shoot it all, we'll bring you more. But, the Marines incorporate suppressive fire into tactics.

What you've posted that you found sounds like a couple of nerds you can find on the internet discussing any topic. You get bump stocks or trigger cranks because you like to pretend some day you'll defend a castle and win a princess. No rifle range in the US will let you use one so unless you have some private place to shoot, you're never going to use it. I allow automatic fire on my property as long as I'm not paying for the ammunition. But, enough is enough and after a few minutes I say okay that's enough.

It's relatively easy to modify an AR style rifle to shoot full auto. The problem is that once you do, it no longer shoots semiauto so the same limitations of where are you going to shoot it apply. You can't take it to a range. I think an AR shootsabout 700 rounds a minute. Granted with only a 30 round magazine that's hampered. So you buy 30 rounds of .223 for $20 or 30 rounds of 7.62 for $30 and the rifle shoots it in under three seconds. Then you have to spend ten minutes picking up the brass. If you really like guns, shooting one bullet at a time is the point unless you just like noise.

Now, for the situation that happened. You've got an overview perch on a packed arena where people are all touching each other close and you don't have to aim, an AR that's been modified to shoot full auto is just as good as a real full auto machine gun. That fish bowl must have been terrifying to be in. He had a lot of rifles. Frankly if you zip off a 30 round magazine on full auto in an AR the barrel will be literally too hot to handle without burning your skin. So you stack up 18 rifles and as you zip off a magazine, you set the rifle down to cool and grab the next and so on down the line.

I am presently restoring two such weapons, an M1919 air cooled, belt fed 30 cal that during WW2 had been converted to have a butt instead of the traditional trigger and a 30.06 BAR

As for the BAR, (Browning Automatic Rifle) on a side note. The BAR and Browning has quite a history.

Delivered to the Army in 1918, got bipods and was fully adopted in 1938. Used in combat worldwide, practice and in service until 1991. Browning did a live demo of his water-cooled machine gun and the infantry automatic shoulder rifle. The govt. immed. ordered the water-cooled model.

By 1943 it had become difficult to keep up with demand but production rates greatly increased in 1943 after IBM introduced a method of casting BAR receivers from a new type of malleable pig iron developed by the Saginaw division of General Motors, called ArmaSteel.

After successfully passing a series of tests at Springfield Armory, the Chief of Ordnance instructed other BAR receiver manufacturers to change over from steel to ArmaSteel castings for this part

The BAR never entirely lived up to the original hopes of the war department as either a rifle or a machine gun, yet, remained in service until 1991 and is still used world wide at all levels.

Remember to link where you plagiarize from.

greta, the term sniping means firing from a concealed position on selected targets.

snipe
/snīp/shoot at someone from a hiding place, especially accurately and at long range.

This does not necessarily mean that the shooter is in an elevated position. The DC snipers that terrorized the Washington DC/ Arlington VA area fired from a parked mini van.

Hell, he could have been laying in an open field wearing a ghillie suit and it would still be sniping.

Might I suggest you look up the terms before using them?

However, from all accounts, the man was randomly shooting into the crowd, and from the 32nd floor across the street from the event, into a crowd does not require accuracy. it is just a matter of point and shoot.

To me, he had two rifles on tripod, with scopes. Both are sniping guns. For him to kill people from 32nd which is a concealed position, he was sniping. While he didn't have specific target in mind, but the specificity of his targets is any human in the concert. He still needed to use the scope to aim and shoot to kill specific targets, one at a time. As in a concert, people are tightly close to together, super crowded and can barely run so it also make sense, he can literally, just keep shooting at fast speed.

Which, of course didn't stop the knee jerk liberals from jumping on the ban bandwagon. I've listened to I don't know how many liberal congressmen today with the bit in their teeth.

Greta we have had mass murderers before that were not connected with ISIS, can you wrap your head around the idea that everyone that goes off the deep end is not connected with ISIS?
ISIS has been responsible for a lot of terrorist acts, murder and mayhem, but they do not appear to be involved in this situation.
There are other "bad" people in the world besides ISIS supporters.

No, it doesnt, there have been country singers from northern states, Canada, Australia and the UK.

Again, do you practice being this ignorant or is it natural?

Just because some other country copies American country, doesn't mean anything. It's like you know, an American making Chinese music.

greta---for the most part, accents are accents and you cannot necessarily differentiate skin color based on them.

But in the US, Black people accent is totally different from White People accent, EVEN if they grew up in the same state. This part is very prominent to me in the US. Which is strange to me since Black People has no second language. In my country, Indian/Malay/and different dialect chinese all have different English Accent, but that's because of our mother tongue, so our mother tongue influence the way we speak English.

and country music as a genre is incredibly eclectic and in many cases, at least to the average music listener, fairly indistinguishable from pop and rock.

I guess you are referring to Taylor Swift who claims to be country.

Greta, jif likes to sound all grandpa McCoy but most of what he says is full of shit. I've seen him pontificate shit in my professional field more than once and he's usually so far out there it's funny. So when he says stuff like thatbto you I have to wonder just how sane he is after stuff he posts.

Oh yes we do.... unless you think killing 58 strangers is normal... there is no sane justification for this.

If you mean "sane" means being a good person. And any person who feel attracted to "evil acts" are insane.

But there are many mass murdering cases that, are pretty conscious and know what they are doing, and they just enjoy it.

I don't like the word "insane", because I feel it is what the western world uses to get murderers off prison.

Over here, we always accuse killers to be sane and conscious and responsible.
