papajohns doesn't have qualified people who can actually discern where the loss of sales comes from.

it was just a total coincidence that sales dropped when the players started taking a knee and viewership dropped!

its all a ploy by papajohn so that he can use the platform to bash the nfl and/or to hide a lack of competitive practice.

everything points to his lying.

cynicism is not a legitimate path through life.

that said, we have a choice of believing the guy knows what he's talking about, or that he's lying. the former is by far the better answer.

Um when a CEO runs a company and it has failing business. He takes alot of heat. To me, he is in trouble and just trying to push blame to save his ass, which is common in CEOs.

Papa John's hasn't done a whole lot to keep up with expanding their menu. On the other hand, Domino's and Pizza Hut have. They've branched out to include pastas, wings, sandwiches and other food types that competitors offer.

Gun-to-my-head, if I had to order pizza while watching a game and it had to be one of the big national chains, Papa John's was always my choice (when I lived in New Jersey. This place is destitute and very few national pizza companies can be found that are close enough to be delivered/brought home hot).

However, I know many fans that have a "game day ritual". I understand some superstitions in sports. Some guys won't shave while they're on a winning streak, etc., but I have never understood fans doing that and thinking it affects the outcome of the game, but those fans do exist.

Papa John's may not have changed much of their recipe because it was working. They were growing. Suddenly, when the multi-millionaire "oppressed" players started taking a knee, Papa John's menu was the issue.

I know. I know. "Correlation doesn't mean causation", but sometimes, it does.

Michael

I feel like I also need to add (yet again) that my real issue isn't with the poor, "oppressed" man-babies on the sidelines. My real issue in all of this is with the NFL not bothering to enforce their own edicts. They CHOSE to ignore their own guidelines and pick a side and about 3.5 million people believe the NFL chose the wrong side. The trickle down affects can't (I don't think) be ignored.

M.P.C.

But here they are:

"The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition.

It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses."

And again, Papa John's stock fall predated all of this.

the company is not "failing"

its simply getting less revenue than in the past, and the only recognizable thing, at least to the public, is less viewership related to the nfl, and their being associated with the nfl.

When your company is declining in revenue under your reign. That's failing. As a CEO, you could get fired. As shareholders will start questioning what's going on? And he gotta make up an excuse that it's not his fault to assuage shareholders.

But the article itself talk about how backwards PapaJohn is to just rely on TV ads in modern world, where OVERALL TV viewership is down. It's not the best way to advertise these days! These are all decisions from the top, OR either the TOP employed the wrong marketing person who still lives in the stone ages. It becomes his responsibility about all these bad decisions too. It just sounds like he is trying to make excuses and shift blame.

But either way, to me, he is looking bad.

greta as to your point----its beside the point. the guy is simply saying that his sales have been hurt by the nfl. whatever else is going on outside of that, is irrelevant to that.

its either true, or not true and its absolutely mind boggling in its hubris that people think they know more than the guy himself on that account, or that he's lying.

and no, earning LESS money is not the same as failing.

So when the dust settles, the maker of awful pizza spouting his bollocks probably shouldn't have had a thread, and it wouldn't be pointed out that his offal hasn't been up to snuff for a while.

I tell you in my country when a local public listed company reports about revenue has dropped due to blah blah blah whatever reason. Soon after, you see the CEO removed and changed. It's cut throat.

Yup, just as I thought. CEO is under pressure for sales dropping, tried to blame NFL to defend himself. But ya know, it's a lame excuse.

Not surprise he is forced to resign.

yeah because someone from outside the company knows the answer to the question of what is causing the sales to drop better than the people who actually run the company. good thinking!

That is very often quite the case.

If the people running the company had a clue why sales were dropping and some idea what they could do about the problem, sales wouldn't be dropping, would they?

greta, you simply just cant make stuff up. you can surmise what you just said as a plausible explanation for what went on. could it be true, maybe, but given the choice between believing he's an honorable & knowledgeable man telling the truth, and the timing of the whole nfl fiasco, im going with my explanation rather than yours.

No. That's commie talk. It comes in a little plastic container, with a foil lid, the way God intended it to.
