But, I (and apparently others) do find it irksome that someone who has not taken the time to get to know us, claims a term of familarity.
While it isn't enough to send me into a white heat, it is enough to dismiss any future conversations with that person.

Yes Missokyst,
I too get irked but then again I am easily bothered by small things.  I mean who do they think they are?  The audacity.  I dismiss them for that huge infraction too.

Heh... that might have gone over better for me if your icon was Galadrial.  I am loving the word audicity.. and your screen name is sufficiently imperious.

I will admit this tends to be a pet peeve of mine but I can feel my teeth cringe when I see those words typed from strangers.
"How are you little one?"  "How're you doing baby?" "Sweet dreams, little one."
Egads.  These people don't even know me!
I know this is my own personal bias, but it just ticks me off as manufactured closeness.
Do you all have words or phrases that just irritate you when said by a stranger?  Or.. do I need another cup of coffee?

Personally, the only one I take offense at from anyone is being called 'baby'.

Living in the south for so many years, I have become accustomed to being called 'honey', 'sugar', 'sweetie', 'darlin', 'little girl'. None of those even phase me.

Same here, although I never get "little girl" unless a man is significantly taller than me AND thinks I'm desirable/fuckworthy.  Even then I don't think it's offensive, from women or men, although I suppose if there were a mean-spirited intent behind it, I'd probably get the message.

LOL, no, your are not alone! I tend to reply to these people by reminding them I am NOT their Babe, little one etc.
I had one fellow used to call me his sweet aussie princess, drove me nuts! So I blocked him. Pushing that block button is almost as satisfying as another cup of coffee

LOL I'm a southern girl and honestly none of those offend me or aggravate me unless they're said in a condescending or rude manner.  But I suppose that would apply to a lot of things, huh?

Now "baby" is one that might just make me swoon (I love that word!) when it's said by the right man, especially if it's whispered in a sultry, sexy manner in my ear.

Pretty much anything said but the right man sounds yummy.  Cumslut.  Gorgeous.  Lady. Woman.  Mine.  Baby, or Poohbear.  If a man means something to you, everything he says takes on more meaning, good and bad.
I DO miss hearing those words from someone I love.    It just doesn't sit right from strangers.

My panties are rarely bunched... but I am thinking a knot in the right spot might be quiet thrilling.
LOL...bunched panties or a knot if it is in right spot it achieves same desireable senstion.............Tempting
Most of what people do around me has much impact on my life.  But, I (and apparently others) do find it irksome that someone who has not taken the time to get to know us, claims a term of familarity.
While it isn't enough to send me into a white heat, it is enough to dismiss any future conversations with that person.  Not because I find them clueless, but because I can see that mannerism would grow wearing over time.  It is like my ex always calling women baby, rather than take the chance he might get their name wrong.
It is both too familar, and not familar enough.
Call me kyst, miss, or my name, and might look at you like someone who wants to see who I might be.  Call me anything less and I am likely to look beyond you.

I love pet names when spoken out of knowlege.  I still glow inside when the former slips and says poohbear.  For me, there must be a connection, or the name is dust.
25 cents worth.
