besides, it's a freakin' history movie and i hate history...purposely skipped it in school because it has no bearing in the real life...i have yet to have an employer aske me a history question...so that course of study is only useful to those who want to learn it. nobody can change the past...so it is useless information.

Oh Michael Michael Michael.........what a very small little world you have created for yourself.

<Ponders this entire thread...>

I'm looking forward to 300. The trailers stir me a geat deal and I'm hoping the movie lives up to the hype.
I was so excited about it, I jumped onto Wikipedia to learn more. I knew about the battle of Thermopolae (sp) and the 300, but not the others that supported them. There was a lot going on during that war. How would it translate to a job or business?

Hmmm, after reading the history of the battle, it tells me that positioning has great value. The first wave of soldiers, about 10,000, attacked the Spartans. The Spartans lunged out from their position in the pass, raised hell and then fell back quickly to suck the Persains into the pass. They used the opponant's enthusiasm against themselves, bunched them up and it turned into a killing floor. The Persians in front couldn't retreat because the ones in back were pushing forward.

How does that translate to business? Momentum in the market place. A product gets released and is so popular, copy cat products flood the markets to take advantage of it. Junk products are cheap to make and deploy and can make millions. ;)

Another example?
Politics. One person can hold up political process for days. It's called a philibuster.

Jobs. A strike can change business policy. A few people standing outside a business can speak for the entire workforce in support of changing a company's policy.

If you employ the knowlege of history creatively, it can help you in your job, business, political and even your love life. You just have to be creative in your view of history.

That is soooo not true.  It is because the movie is filled with half naked men.  Michael never tires of telling us how he feels about men, half naked or otherwise.

Or he can't bring himself to see it because all those sweaty half-naked bodies might make him rethink his opinion of men.  It must be torture for him being so close to Ft. Benning and all those young, buff soldiers.  Perhaps, like Gang of Four, he just loves his men in uniform?

~stef

Or maybe, out of uniform.
I watch The History Channel everyday.
Lot's of interesting shows there.
We learned all about the Greeks and Romans the Vikings and Shakespere when I was in school and I really enjoyed it!
I wonder how Michael feels about Cops and Firefighters?

Well the Theathers in my area are already selling tickets to 300.  I have not made up my mind about the movie but I do plan to see it.  Actually the Spartans were not half naked, they wore chest armor, arm and knee protection, around their waist was a type of leather skirt.   Standard weapons short sword, shield and lance..(lenght was about 10 feet) and helmets.  The only place on them that was naked was the Thigh area which in combat was a prime target area.  The tactic mention is one that has been used in many battles.

I wish you well

if I want to go see it, then it's damned sure expected to be an awesome flick, I have an eye for these sorta things. I've been following the reviews and reactions to it's screenings (yes I want to go see it that much) and it is not just sin city in ancient greece, its much more substantial then that.

Whats the hate on Sin City about anyway?

Umm Nosathro, who said hoplites where dressed the same way as in the movie?

I have seen the "Action Figures", they are on sale already, and the Spartans figures are wearing jock straps.  Not very period, they did not have anything close to that.  In fact underwear was not worn, tunics were by both men and women.  The only armor I saw on the figure was a helmet, not Spartan, low arm and shin guards that they had.  The sword was not even close to what the Spartans had.  There will be a article in my local paper on Friday it is suppose to compare Frank Miller 300 to Citizen Kane?????????

I'm not expecting a history lesson. I am expecting a grand, sweaty, bloody, graphically enhanced romp, in a historical setting.

I can't wait to see what the History Channel comes out with about Spartans.
They had a special last night, which no doubt will repeat. I didn't get to see it all, but what I did see was interesting. One thing about the History channel, they pay attention to what's coming out on the big screen so they can capture the viewers who want the historical story behind the movie.

Exactly.  I certainly wasn't watching Troy, Gladiator, and my all time favorite from my childhood "Jason And The Argonauts for their historical value.  My interest in 300 is for its entertainment value.

btw, are those dolls life size and are the jock straps removable?
The movie is advertised as an adventure, not a historical account as far as I can tell. And, yes , I'm happy to say, it does seem the men are less clothed than some may deem necessary.  That's a good thing in my opinion, it will distract me from some of the violence and I view that as a worthy service.

I've seen it. It's amazing!

The action is incredible, it's non-stop pacing! Awesome!

2 sex scenes.... one hot..... one sad (essentially, rape)
