There was recently a post here in another thread in which someone said said
something like;  "There is nothing sexy about a kitchen"

Later in an email exchange with one of the bright ladies on these boards she said
"I know men find the kitchen to be erotic but I do not understand why."

This surprised me.  As a dominant male I find that the kitchen is an enormously sexy place.  I am certain other dominant males are not alone in this.

So I thought I it might be interesting to post this here and open the topic for comment. My only proviso is that if you lead an "Upstairs/Downstairs" lifestyle and your major concern is dressing for a dinner that is being prepared by your staff then you will possibly not relate to this.  I and most of the other people I know are not burderned this way.  We frequently eat at a small table in the kitchen, or a den and save the formal dining room for special occasions.  If there is a formal dining room at all.

Obviously, in non sexual terms the kitchen is the most sensual room in the house
Consider this relm of the senses.  Taste is first but not just taste the range and type of tastes: bitter, sweet, savory, salty, and sour comprise the known taste buds.  But a taste symphony can be played with these five notes and their variations.

But taste never exsists alone.  You are simultaneously involved with scent: aroma; a fragrance that triggers the anticipation and then enriches the fulfillment of the sensual experience.  And once again the range and possible combinations: sweet, sour, bitter, savory, from the floral to the pungent.

And there is also the sense of touch, although it is generally called texture and is experienced with the mouth  some possibilities: Crispy, crunchy, chewey, soft, gooey, creamy, one of these blending to the other as you go from the outside to the center.  Or the soft outside with the hard center.  Hard as ice....or....liquid.

And sight:  colors, textures, dull to shiny as a glaze or a polished apple.   Some things look solid and weighty, some feathery and light.  My favorite crystal has minimal faceting so I can watch the wine at play with light.

And sounds: the sounds food makes being prepared, the sounds that accompany consumption. I recall taking a drive and purchasing vegetables at a stand.  Once home I heard a CRACK! from the kitchen, and said "Was that the lettuce?"  Once I heard "Yes" I knew I was in for an exceptional salad that night.

And don't forget the element of time.  Is it something plan for in advance, start in the morning, cook all day, keeping it simmering while concentrating the intensity, then consume formally in the evening?  Or do you just spontaneously grab a quick something on the spot?  And is that satisfying or is it just a taste of something to enjoy at your leisure later?

Now then take these elements and work with them in all their possible combinations.  Combine and or separate, focused on one aspect or diverse, blended smoothly or contrasted one with the other to offset and enrich each other by the contrast.

It seems pretty clear to me that these are the same creative elements that are involved with that other great creative pastime, sex.  And this brings up another element.  A truly superior chief can and will target the dish or meal to the palate of their dining partner.

This is so apparent to me that I would bet it is the real basis of the old folk saying: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach".  In a time when premarital sex was a big taboo for a "decent" women how better to judge her sensual sensitivities and ability to appreciate same?  That would be an interesting study in cultural anthropology, not my field however.

And speaking of the other aspects and implications; could the symbolism of preparing and offering something be any more blatant?  Sounds pretty dominant/submissive to me.  And the possibilities for predicament bondage while a woman is preparing a meal are terrific.  I played with someone once while they were preparing a meal and six months later in a resturant I ordered for both of us, the same dish, and when I said "The lady will have..........it is a favorite of hers." in a straight voice, she blushed.  The start of a lovely second evening with that dish.

I could go on for a long time.  The subject is so rich and the possibilities so interesting.  But I want your input.  So I leave you with this small idea as a gift for having read all this.

Have your partner plan a special meal to be served in a few courses, a course can be something as simple as the glass of wine before dinner.  Have them also prepare a list of the clothing they will wear when they serve the meal, the numbers should match.  Then tell them they are going to remove the clothing article of your choice with each course.  Once again I encourage everyone to be creative and use your own variations.

The nice fringe benefit of this particular game is that desert actually burns calories rather than consuming them.

I enjoy food being erotic in the sense of having an elegant dinner together, using finger foods to enjoy mutliple senses through dinner and using the experience as a great foreplay.

Otherwise- ew ew ew ew EW.  I can't stand food ON my body, I can't stand watching people eat messily, I can't stand seeing food on OTHER people.  Just ew bad wrong.

There are those who say that cooking is my kink. They're more right then they know. What you've written describes a lot of why I enjoy cooking. I especially love the D/s aspect of it. I can present a meal to a Dominant and it is visible gift of my submission to them.

Just my thoughts....

LA,

My post said nothing about food ON anyone's body.
I understand that is a kink for some, but not what I was talking about.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where George gets turned on by eating and having sex!

food is my thing... i love everything about it...planning, purchasing, preparing, serving and eating.  not so much the cleanup though (lol).  we've played with foods in many ways.  the whole 9 1/2 weeks food thing has been fun replicating.  we've recently done a very formal D/s dinner with 7 courses.  many times i'm not allowed a plate; He feeds me.  food, in and of itself, is extremely sensual to me.  who doesn't enjoy the sensuous texture, taste and aroma of dark chocolate?  other foods i feel that way about...fois gras, rare steak, oysters, lobster, a ripe peach; i could go on but i'm making myself hungry  (and hot).

one of our favorite things is that we start off the first course nude and add clothing as each course is served building to the main course where we're in formal dress and then reverse the process ending nude again with coffee service (and second dessert ...wink).  for a special anniversary we booked a private room at a gourmet restaurant and i started the dinner in a ballroom length skirt and changed into progressively shorter skirts but that part really wasn't about food.  the menu was fabulous though.  the chef created it for us based off a wine we had saved for years for that special occasion.  the waiter still remembers us 5 years later.

When Sir and I first met, he came to my home and I prepared a 3-course Thai meal for him.  He was completely overwhelmed by the gesture saying, "no one has cooked for me in so long, I could hardly remember what it was like."  Not only did he enjoy the food, immensely, but the gesture of cooking for him was enjoyed as well -- on both our behalfs.

Sir is what one might call a "foodie."  His love of food has turned me on (in more ways than one) to so many different and wonderful foods and ideas.  We are constantly going to new restaurants, trying new recipes (I am even compiling a cookbook just for our favorite recipes) and just enjoying the bountiful food variations that are available to us.  To me, there is nothing more sensual than when Sir comes into the kitchen and interacts with me while I am preparing his meal, and when I take his food to him, after having spent considerable time and effort to prepare it, I always present it as an "offering" of sorts.  It is just one of the many expressions of my love and admiration for him, and I am amply rewarded for my efforts.

When I read the OP to Sir he was in total agreement -- the sensuality of cooking cannot be denied if you approach it with the right frame of mind.

Yes!!  Kitchens can be sexy.  Look at the sensual movies which use food/kitchen as their foundation:  "Like Water for Chocolate," "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman," and "Chocolate" to name a few.  In my literature class last year we had to read a poem called "Green Chile" by Jimmy Santiago, which was about a man reflecting on being a little boy watching his grandmother cook eggs and chile for breakfast.  Sounds simple at the surface but it was quite an erotic piece of work.  What I saw in it was the building of a love affair between the woman and her chile.  The grandmother’s sizzling approach to preparing her chile stirs the reader with vivid images, and forms an enticing and sensual mood by applying the symbolism of food as it relates to desire, passion, and culture.

As for me, I love to cook.  I could spend all day creating a gourmet feast, filled with aroma, flavor, and texture, combined with the heat of the oven and stove, and happily dancing from one counter to the next.  And to present a work of art fit for a king is an amazing pleasure.

Then again, there are many creative tools in the kitchen for minds like ours, lol.

The mention of food ON the body makes me shudder as well.  I would rather leave it to travel from plate to mouth myself, but I don't always get to make that decision...

I've heard a number of people say that food consumption and preparation are sexy. Doesn't work for me. I find that cooking and eating together promotes intimacy, but not desire. It's fun, and I'm fond of it, and sometimes it does put me in the mood for non-sexual physical contact, but it doesn't induce great surges of animal lust.

Now, I do get in the mood for sex when I've successfully cooked something technically challenging, but the fact that food is involved is immaterial. For me, pride and accomplishment promote desire.

This is a most well-thought out and interesting post by Outlier.

We might expand on the sensuality of the kitchen by discussing alternate uses for kitchen utensils, etc. I decorated a big flat wooden spoon as a spanking tool gift for my Dominant. This is ordinary, but some may think of more unique ways to use things.

The kitchen can be sensual.  Nothing but an apron, table and some kitchen tools....

Back before I became a parent, food was fun. But after cooking every night for almost 18 years, it's a chore. Cleaning up after the breakfast cereal isn't sexy. Finding a vegetable that almost every person in the family will eat isn't sexy. These days it's like laundry, something that needs to be done.

Often times when daddy drives down from Petaluma after work, I have something waiting for him to eat. Daddy gets here about 10 usualy, and has worked hard all day.
