You know, I always loved movies like "The Tuskegee Airmen" with Lawrence Fishburn because it really shows what people are capable of when they stop blaming others for their problems and instead rise to the challenge to prove people's stereotypes wrong. The problem is, that mindset has passed in many minority cultures. Today's generation of minorities, at least certain ones, love to sit back and blame the evil white people for all the wrongs in their lives. No one ever wants to step up and change their life. They just want to sit on their ass and wait for that government check to come in because it's what the evil white people "owe" them for something that didn't even happen directly to them. As I said....racism will never end as long as those "of race" don't let it.

I'll admit I was a lucky kid...I was adopted by two loving "white" parents and I grew up around Dayton, Ohio but my father was transferred to a predominately "white" town in Wisconsin and needless to say that was quite an adjustment for a "hard struggling black boy." My high school was entirely white but some how I found a way to adjust and prosper.....It was tough....But I guess I found a way. I was able to attend a small private liberal arts school in Illinois with the majority of the 1700 students being crackerz....Our Black Student Union was comprised of less than forty students...But for some reason I never felt compelled to join. All I know is that for you to suggest that I don't know my ancestors is rediculous there is a substantial documentation of the history of all of my relatives back to the country of their birth. I'm sure my relatives have done more in a few generations than all of your relatives combined...."Don't mess with Texas."....You would think that you would have been picked up by now. As far as as you saying that there maybe some white actors that are better than a black man is ridiculous...Obviously you never saw "Soul Plane."...And I'm sure you would agree that basketball was more enjoyable when it was only played by "better more skilled and competent white players." White people are evil...On the whole they sicken me...However you will be happy to know that I have tapped many of your proud white sisters....So when you run into a few that don't quite feel tight enough take solace that I was probably there ahead of you... If you really need money for books I probably could lend you some money..."Cuz a white mind is a terrible thing to waste." And I won't be able to sleep tonight knowing where your life is heading....Of course you will need to find a black person to be a co-signer on your loan from me... sighs I was the only black female at my elementary school, and only one out of four blacks total. Some kids were scared to talk to me because they thought I was going to go off on them and pull a gun or something. Some found me utterly fascinating, asking me questions about my hair, about how dark I get in the sun, and whatnot. Then, when I got to middle school, I found myself lost in a sea of mostly black students. I wasn't the individual chocolate girl anymore. And yet, I was called "oreo" and other such names--not by the white kids, but by the black ones. English was one of my favorite subjects; ergo, I checked my grammar constantly, and spoke as properly (not as snobby) as I could. That, and my mother didn't allow me to use certain words. Then came high school...a very nicely mixed ratio, but I was still teased about my proper speech. Well, after high school, I weighed my options on college. I started it off at a community college, and wondered where I would transfer to. I didn't want to go to an HBCU, as I was afraid they'd talk about me some more. Eventually I got over that, and wound up going. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Someone else brought up edoocashion, so I thought I'd throw in my two pennies (I swear, I thought that said "penises" when I first looked back at it) on this one. Well wishes, little onyx

When I said you didn't know your ancestors, I did not say you didn't know who they were. I said you didn't KNOW them. (Ie You did not go through slavery. They did. You are owed nothing for what they went through. You need to make for yourself same as I need to make for myself.) It's funny though, I think after I got past that line, I saw your post for the sarcastic humor it was intended. At least that's my hope. No way the rest of what you said could be on the level. One of my Mama's favorite stories is...when I was in kindergarten I was invited to my friend's birthday party. My Mama asked me what she was like, so she could buy an appropriate present, and I mentioned all kinds of stuff. I can't tell you exactly what I mentioned, but it definitely wasn't that she was black. Of course, at the party the mother's got to talking about it...because, why not? And, they were talking about how you don't see color if you don't choose to see it. I wish I could be that way again, but, alas, I grew up. My friend couldn't hang out with me because I was white and she didn't want to be kicked out of her clique. So, we met after school everyday and walked home together talking about our day. The differences just seemed to disappear when it was just the two of us walking along. I think that was when I really started to understand the difference between dealing with "people" and dealing with a "person". It was also when I started to grow up. When we stop seeing people defined by their group/heritage/culture and begin to look at the individuals...it enhances the meaning of the person and how they fit within their group. I can't tell you that I don't see color, anymore. There was a time that was the case, but not now. I've just learned to adjust my vision and take the color in with the rest of the person...and I do my best to let them tell me who they are, not they're skin color.
