I do. I used to have a similar view of things. But that changed.

Still, I don't have a problem seeing what he means, but I see various differences in a different way than he does, and I have a different perspective on what the scale is like (and hence, how big the difference really is).

A 5-year old has the same intellectual capacity, in almost all regards, as an adult ape.

So his scale is somewhat off.

An ape is a little bit smarter than an idiot (look up the formal meaning of the term "idiot" if that strikes you as insensitive), but not nearly as smart as an average adult.

That said, a lot of animals do have amazing levels of intelligence. Elephants may very well exceed humans, though it'd be hard to be certain.

And humans will be outdone by computers in a few decades to a couple of centuries, as far as outright intelligence is concerned, most likely. HSM (sp?) algorithms closely approximate the fundamental algorithms of the human neocortex, and can be scaled beyond what the human brain has room for.

First off...ASWAD, Not everyone who posts is looking to get your views on every single fucking topic....You seem like a nice enough dude...But it tis time for you to chill...

"Every single topic"? I try to pick 1-10 topics a week, most of the time.

I'm not forcing anyone to read my posts.

And if anyone finds them problematic, and can't ignore them, they can block me. I don't have a problem with that.

It may seem like I post more than I do, because I generally start at the beginning of a thread, and work my way through it, which leads to a lot of posts clustered in one place, and then I follow up. Which is also why I don't pick many threads. And I could reduce the clustering by posting in a "digest" format, but that makes it harder for people to reply, in turn, and makes for huge posts that take lots of time to read and discourage replies.

We all participate to the extent that we are comfortable with.

Edit: politeness.

The Bell Curve bores me.  I have an untested theory on the levels of intelligence.
Consider a circular model where the levels go around, each taking a place, like numbers on a clock.  "Genius" and "idiot" are next to each other.  Sometimes there's a little bit of slippage.  This explains how a "genius" has no common sense.  I call it the "fine line" theory of intelligence.

All I know is I took an IQ test once and it had ranges of score.  And I didn't even score enough points to make it to the lowest rank.  I took it hard.

If you think you're 98th percentile or higher, the Mensa society will do the test for you, for a small fee, and you don't have to become a member, even if the scores are high enough. A friend of mine took the test specifically to decline membership, because he hates Mensa; he passed with flying colours, and was apparently deeply satisfied with the response.

people have have taken the mensa iq test are rather diappointed when they take the standard test because they find that on the stannard test they are always 20 - 25 points lower than the mensa test...  mensa is sort of fudged.

Superior intelligence is a massive responsibility and it often feels like a burden, but humour is a clever way to fend off the darkness which so often clouds over the very bright mind.

What I observe from this thread is that a few posts are lacking in emotional awareness. This reveals what feels to me like terribly painful moral pain. Yet intelligence, whilst intrinsically accompanied by raised awareness, curiousity and knowledge - and thus, the potential for getting hurt and feeling lonely - does not entail despair.

Let it be known: not all geniuses are humourless, sour-faced boars

I never call myself one.

I would feel overly narcissistic and self-worshipping to do so.

I prefer the hanky-head Village Idiot self-image approach to life.

p.s.  On a related note, I really enjoy reading your posts, Aswad, even when I dont necessarily agree with them.

heheheheh... how true! I've certainly been influenced. I liked that analogy about people building brain cages, in this case and (the remainder of the  boi's who've posted on this page so far), I see that one can also staff that brain cage with the brilliant thought of OTHER's who actually have vision. Their like little parrots with funny haircuts.

Normal ranges
Most subs and slaves have been normal. I couldn't relate to most. Normal people have natural IQ's not overly different from domesticated animals, in my opinion, with the notable exceptions of speech and fine manual dexterity. I regard most sub's/slave's in this range as pets. They were unable to understand my emotions, thoughts, or feelings.

sure

Expansion: Yes, if I had ever actually attended a public elementary, middle, or highschool in Texas I'd admit it. As it was I attended Catholic school until I finished the 8th grade and then I homeschooled. last summer I CLEP'd 30 hours and last fall I CLEP'd an additional 15 hrs. I carried 15 hrs each last Fall and this Spring semester at UT in Austin. I was 18 last Valentine's Day. I now have 75 hrs towards my degree and all summer to relax and feel good about the progress I've made in my first year at college.

One of my volunteer projects is to provide surveillance assistance along the Texas border to stem illegal immigration, as an adjunct my group also investigates and does video surveillance of factories and warehouses that we suspect are using criminal illegal aliens. The first action is to deter/apprehend illegals in the act of illegally entering the US, the second action is to build a case for successful prosecution of businesses who employ illegals.

Why? Because The Texas Public Educational System is a failure. As a result there are a large quantity of young Americans who ARE willing to work the so-called crap jobs that no one wants. Unfortunately the tragic result of the self-serving greed of many businesspersons has created a situation where Americans are left no choice other than crime (or limited welfare assistance), because they have no education. Tragic because Americans are in prison while criminal aliens are free. I want to fix that.
