How can a 21 year old possibly be a Master?
I find it hard to understand how one so young could have the understanding, wisdom and life experiance which is needed to be a Master.

From what age do you take them serious?

I don't have an age where 'BINGO' you're old enough to be a master! It isn't an age thing with me, instead it is a maturity and confidence thing.Confidence to me, means that you can question yourself and your actions without losing any thing in the process. That is where maturity comes in. To hold a certain age as the starting point to being a master, mistress, dominant or slave or submissive makes no sense to me.It is not about the age for me.

Some people are born mature and then others never do. It's the individual that you should go by. Especially in this day and age where the kids are exposed to everything under the sun by the media, abused by their parents and worrying about getting shot in school. It's a different world out there today. They grow up fast.

I make a point of giving everybody the benefit of the doubt. This is sometimes hard, and against the grain, but you cannot recognize talent unless you let it roam free. And you will on occasion be amazed at what you find. Of course, if someone doesn't deliver on their mouth, I can get really nasty. But it is Wall Street 101 - you never know, and you don't want to miss The One.

I am sure some people will disagree with me, but I don't feel at 21 someone has the expereince or stability to be a Master. I am sure there are those rare exceptions. Also I could see being mentored to become a Master.

I was 18..and yes..I might have sucked at it..and perhaps still do. Just for my slaves or subs to judge.
But agree....I had no life experience then and propably would have done things differently.

YOu have to starts once lol

Personally, I do not put much stock in the term "master". To me it denotes a title that a submissive sort calls their dominant sort and it does not have the import you put on it. I do not think dominants of any title are more wise, all knowing, understanding than anyone else... including submissive sorts. I would wonder if you think it takes less wisdom or understanding to be a submissive/slave sort? Or a Daddy sort, or a lord sort, or even a vanilla sort.

How does one become a master in my mind? They find a submissive person that agrees they are a master and is willing to call them that...

As others have said, I think it's more a question of experience than age.

Who do you think would do a better job?
A 21 year old guy that's been reading up on the subject matter and topping his girlfriend for the past 3 years or a 38 year old guy that has never tried any of it before?

Besides, there are always exceptions. As somebody who had to put up with a lot of ageism when he was younger, the concept always makes me bristle. Let's see...when I was 21, I'd been a college graduate for 2 years, was married, had a stable respectable job, and frankly easily passed in all respects for 25. But boy, when people found out I was 21 it was not uncommon to suddenly be treated differently for some reason. The same guy you thought was 25 yesterday turned out to be 21 and it just screwed up their whole world view.

Judging solely by age is silly. Sure, maybe it's a useful starting point, but after that it varies so wildly from person to person as to be completely useless.

It is a Big responsebility, to call yourself a Master/Mistress, and to be really able to guide someone, which is the task You take upon Yourself being a Master/Mistress.

And would that be different with young Mistresses?

I spawned offpspring at 22, I believe that responsibility trumps a master taking on a slave... talk about your all encompassing, life changing, completely overwhelming responsibility for another human being.... what doms do with submissives does not even come close to the level of responsibility that entails

If they are 21 and have 8+ years experience i will second guess them. i have seen some that are 18 yrs of age and have had at least 2 live in slaves 24/7. i consider personally the age of 30+ that i would take them seriously.

My Master is 19 and I'm 22. Figure that one out. He has the personality for dominant and I have the personality for submissive. We started out Vanilla as just a couple and both started developing into these roles. Now, if you're 30 or whatever and have oh say 5 years experience and you're looking into getting a master you probably won't go looking for the 21 year olds to find one. That's understandable, but consider a 20 year old submissive completely new to this lifestyle, he/she might go looking for somone his/her age and experience level to start out. It all depends. BDSM isn't Black and White, it's a continuum in grey-scale.

We hash this over every few weeks or so. Does it matter? I'm 43... I don't care how mature a 21 year old is, I'll probably never take them as seriously as someone who has simply seen more in their lifetime. Do they think I'm old and jaded? Probably.

which reminds Me, when I was 21, I was living on My own already for 5 years, I was close to becoming married, and I thought I could handle the whole wide world on Me own.

Now almost 20 years later, I know better, and although I was pretty mature back then, and surely have had My share of life experiance, I as sure wasn't ready to Dominate anyone.
