When you have issues like this the thought of John McCain winning the election and possibly placing two more conservative justices on the supreme court makes me shudder.  I still remember Thurgood Marshall trying to hold on until Regan was out of office.  Unfortunately he didn't make it through Bush Sr and we traded a great man like him for Clarence Thomas.

Me, Too, Greedy!
I am waiting with GREAT IMPATIENCE for any of my wonderful sons to find a nice girl and BRING ME SOME GRANDCHILDREN, ALREADY, DAMNIT! (well, actually, one of my sons is Bi and Trans. I will be fine with it if he finds a nice guy - just as long as the nice Guy wants children. I WANT GRANDCHILDREN!)
So, Greedy, how do you feel about naming your first daughter Olivia? really, I can introduce you to my son - he's a nice kid....
And quit practicing your Bloody other side of the pond speak in here, trying to get ready to leave us! we will cry, you know!
better you should marry my son and give me a granddaughter named Olivia. Yea! This is gonna work out great!

I'm pretty much not in the fertile years, Tsa... but Olivia is a lovely name...*smooches Tsa*

tsatske,

It's a side effect of being someone who has strong opinions, one way or another.

Not quite.  Most people are able to share opinions here, even strong ones, without resorting to attacking people in the process.  A few are not.

I always wonder the very same thing about this strange paradox. When it comes to gay marriage though, I think I have found the solution. Rabid conservatives don't like it because they feel  that it somehow diminishes the value of their own wedding vows, since it allows 'sex deviants' from making the same choices as they, holy and godlike as they are, have made.

And the liberal christians who are against gay marriage.....Why do they dislike it?

Why else would it be, in your opinion (it's obvious you have one, although why you are so shy about sharing it, only you know).

I think your right, it's probibly for pretty much the same reason. I just think it's funny, when christians are against something. That the majority of the posters call them "the religious right" or "rabid conservatives"

It's almost as if they really believe that only the right wing christians feel this way. Maybe they don't realize that there are christians on both sides of the fence. Or maybe they are so wrapped up in putting down conservatives, they don't realize what they are doing.

After all, according to Kitten, it doesn't matter if what your saying is true or not. As long as it stops that women from getting in.

Marriagewas alegal contract even back in the days of the celtic people.  They would marry for "a year and a day" (ever heard that statement before) to see if it would work out.  At the end of that period, it was the woman who decided whether to renew or not.  They were also able to make it a lifelong contract after the first.  Kind of kept husbands on their toes.

As for the gay marriage issue, it is easier to cloud people's minds with something that shouldn't even be an issue than to face real issues.  Two men getting married does not affect my marriage at all so I should have no say in the matter.  To do so is to be a bigot.  One man with two or three wives should be no issue if all are aware of the situation and agree to it.  Denying that right for many of us is religious persecution.  For a country that has "no state religion" we sure seem to bow down to only one acceptable religion and their views on marriage.

   greetings *...

marriage is between TWO PEOPLE* ...and it matters NOT...whether they are male and female.
WHY are so many people so HUNG UP on  this issue......
and who cares who's sleeping in their neighbors bed?
i personally love the arguement that somehow gays will "Tarnish the institution of marriage"...lol
    what"the"?..lol.....are YOU KIDDING ME?????
hasn't brittney spears already done that....?
  how about Liz Taylor?
or.....i don't know..........my old aunt adra.....who married men for money....?
   or......i don't know...HOW ABOUT......lol...the people....WHO WALK DOWN to the alter..thinking..."what a joke*.....and don't believe in GOD at all??????
  >so..and Athiest can marry*.....but not a christian gay man...or lesbian......?
so..does that mean.....if i get a Sex change...i can marry the woman of my dreams?
    LOL......
    sorry...lol...its just so rediculous,...and >? what can i say....
? and....how does this marriage thing work for ellen..and portia? they can marry in california......but....move to new york..and...what? they? aren't married anymore?
     WAKE UP AMERICA*
there are AS MANY GAY PEOPLE AS THERE ARE STRAIGHT ONES*
a LOT ARE OUT*.......but some are HIDING.....still scared...someone will "Find OUT*.....
      overall......i know things will change...

i see these young kids..in the small town where i am from....
they are young and gay....(girls and boys)....and i am proud to say they are coming out in a rate that i would never have believed was possible when i was that age.
the parents.....lol..are another matter...they freak..then get past it..and move on...
but these..are our future voters.....the old ways of thinking will pass away...and someday....gay marriage will be thought of like....the idea of blacks marrying whites or the womans right to vote......
i know this will happen...i just hope i live long enough to see it....

i had a commitment ceremony with my partner after we were together for 4 yrs and we were together all told for 7 years. Our assets were merged within the first year of our relationship and legally we were bound in all sorts of ways that would have been simpler if the marriage had been legal. We had a child together and went thru the second parent adoption process and when we broke up...the only thing i felt obligated to do was take care of the adoption issues/custody issues. The rest sorted itself out privately amongst ourselves...if we had to have the legal system untangle us it would have been so much more expensive.

i personally dont need to be legally recognised to be in a real relationship...but out of solidarity i support marriage rights and am as active in that cause as i can be...which isnt very at the moment.

imho...Fl could easily ammend their constitution...and that just chips away at any progress that has been made. Eventually it will be worked out but i honestly dont see it within my lifetime...perhaps my son's.
