Question....I am working on plans to ( I hope...fingers crossed!!) move to Florida in about 6 months. Have any of you moved with your cat(s) a long distance (in this case, over 950 miles)? How did you move them? How did they tolerate the move? This is either going to be a 17+ hour drive, or we're going to have to stop overnight somewhere on the way.

Any suggestions for making this less traumatic for everyone involved??

When I moved from England to Germany with my fur gang (the drive was about 10 hours) they were all placed in a large cage in the car...so they could still walk around in that one and were not stuck in just a cat carrier....though the height was lowered to half its height as otherwise nothing would have had fitted into that car anymore except that cage...

I have had about 4 layers of cat beddings in there, so if any of them (I had 5 cats in there) would have used it as a toilet, I could have gotten rid of the top layer somewhere at a parking space bin, if it would have been necessary....though all 5 of them could handle it, not to use their cage as a litter box...

Spicy (who unfortunately vanished a year after that move) did miaow sometimes during that drive but all others were pretty quiet...Curry was placed in a cat carrier on my lap for the first 2-3 hours, somewhere in france I did add him to the cage then (as on hometurf it was too risky for me to try to get him in, as there he would have been too strong not to get in there, whereas after 2-3 hours drive, he was too intimidated from that drive, to dare to run off...also Pepper, a rather quiet and easy to handle cat, almost managed to fight herself off my arms, when I brought her to our car in the UK....so I almost lost her on there and had to pin her to the ground once and pick her up again, to manage to get a better hold of her again...)

Anyhow, they did in my view astonishingly well for that long journey and over here I never was given the option to drug any of them....but then, we also don't declaw cats, so there the law might be different...

Anyhow, good luck with your move...

Angel thoroughly enjoyed tidbits of the seared tuna appetizer I had for dinner. She thinks we should have that more often - like every day.

Curry is enjoying his true life of being a cat....which means sleeping all day long during the day....and roam about during the night

I seriously love it, how he enjoys himself here and am relieved every morning, when he returns safe and sound

Though I am also looking forward to the winter...when he will be less keen on going outside...

Currently we have a lil visitor...maybe 5-7 months old...

two days ago I heard a gentle miaowing when I was digging in the garden for our hedge...I thought "thats odd....doesnt sound like one of mine..." and it wasnt....it was a lil black and white boy on our wall to the neighbour (a neighour who has a sort of dog who tears apart a cat, when he has got a chance...)

As he was a young one I decided to check, if he is hungry...as I was unsure if he has got a home...and gosh, did he eat that sheba-tin of cat food rappidly....he was hungry...

Now today I could hear him again, thinking at first it would be summer who is doing that noise...then I found him, to my huge shock in the garden of that neighbour with the cat-dangerous dog....I did not manage to get him up the fence and soon later he was far away from the fence so there was nothing I could do for this lil boy...

Then I could hear that dog and expected pretty likely, that this will be it for that cat....but thankfully it wasnt...I got the impression actually, that summer demonstrated to him to "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE" as she also run as if she would be in danger of that dog (which normally, she does not do at all anymore and she was very far away and even had less a reason to be concerned about that dog)...

Anyhow, thankfully he grasped it and I got him back inside once more - after picking him up from the wall of our house at our terrace - and waited for Frank. Once he came he gave him twice a sheba tin, which he both ate rappidly...then he emptied another about half leftover tin on the plate, ate on top of that a fair amount of dry food and also 2 cat-food-sausage-treats.....

We are pretty confident, he has no home....and might adopt him, if he comes to visit us again...for now we continue on the basis "we will wait and see"...he knows where we live....but in the unlikely event, that he does have a home, he can still happily go there and not return anymore at all...

Now, Pepper on the other hand was distressed a lot about this visitor...so much actually, that she pooed on the edge of the cat toilet instead inside....and kept hiding underneath our oven....so in case this lil Lucky-boy will ever move in, also for her sake, we have to take it slowly....and thats ok...

I was off all week recovering from eye surgery, so I was here when the housekeeper arrived. The minute she opened the door, Angel opened the bathroom cabinet, went under the sink, and stayed there the entire time she was here. The housekeeper says she does it every time she comes over. She must not like the noise and commotion. Now I know why I often find the cabinet door open.

Mine are learning to use the toilet. Since Insaniac is appropriately named, I will not teach them to flush.

One of mine just puked while I was out of the room. The rest are being their normal selves, and I am grateful that they are adjusting to being confined in one room most of the time. (the reason for that is that I've just moved in with my Mom and her 2 cats - the introductions are going rather slowly *sigh*)

Poor baby kitty. I feed a momma stray with kittens and one of the kittens got tore up by two pitbulls. I'm pretty pissed even if the owner feels bad considering the kitten was killed in my yard. Why aren't those violent motherfuckers on a fucking leash?

Mine is being extremely cuddly and affectionate ...even more so than how he usually is when I first get home from work. Except this time he is doing his best to drive himself between me and my laptop...and doing a damned good job of it.... He's so sweet....

Urmel is still trying to convince me to be allowed to use the lovely softened garden area around our newly planted hedge as a litter box....needless to say, I am not impressed....and hush him away whenever I get the chance to do so...

Alley is currently eating. However, with her, it is not just eating... it is her way of making a statement about how pathetic and cruel an owner I am. She has a hyper-sensitive digestive system and therefore can only eat prescription cat food, I've tried all of the special digestive health shit, and the prescription shit is all she can tolerate... Anyway... her process of making her point with how cruel I am is to pick up a piece of food, drop it on the floor, look over at me with sad eyes, and eat the paltry morsel... rinse, repeat.

She is a fucking character because she does not do that all the time, but when I have company, she makes a point of visiting her bowl often and either waiting until my company looks at her, or she makes some kind of ruckus to attract the attention, and then she goes through the ritual... all the time with the look in her eyes of, "Please kind human, rescue me from the hands of this vile and contemptuous tyrant."

My fucking cat just caught and tortured a mouse for a half an hour. When I tried to get it away from him he kept taking it to hiding places, which is obviously no good- cause then I'll find it in my closet in my shoes...so I just left him, and I can hear him eatttttting it. He isn't USED to catching mice and I've never seen him catch one- so I'm taking bets on how long it is before he throws it up. AND NOW he is MEOWING at me. Like he's proud or something. I don't wanttttttttttt to clean up a mouse or cat puke with mouse in it. MY GUY ISN'T HERE I HATE THIS.

*has a meltdown*

I HATE HIM FOR DOING THIS WHILE I'M HOME ALONE.

Normally, Angel hates the housekeeper and runs and hides the minute she comes over. It was cold one day this week, though, and she decided not to budge from the warm bed. She is 14 lb. and when she doesn't want to move, she can't be budged. So the housekeeper had to find a way to make the bed around her. She can be a brat.

I won a pointsettia this evening but turned down my prize because I understand they are toxic to cats.

...one of mine is vulching the mice. We have three mouse cages (think of them as kitty tv sets) and two wheels need oiling. The squeee squeee squeee is making Valiant want to knock over the cage and bust it open again...so he can chase the little white furry things as they make a mad dash for safety.

I'm about to head upstairs to go to bed and there should be at least one cat lounging/hogging a stair step. Griz will jump in the sink and I'll have to remove him to get my toothbrush wet. Another will be a big pest while I'm brushing my teeth, demanding attention until I turn on the bath tub faucet enough so that he can play with a small stream of water. It's usually Valiant's twin brother, DiNozzo. On my bed will be two bed hogs, Griz (all black, short haired) and my son's tortoise shell Anya (yes, they do get 2/3 of my full sized bed). Once I'm lying down, Willow (long haired gray tabby) will climb all over my body and treat me as her human pincushion. She won't be done pestering me for attention until some of her tail fur falls off and gets into one of my eyeballs. Yes, aargh.

Some time during the night, the cats will take a vote and decide which one of them will be noisily yacking up a fur ball and who will drop a sh*t bomb in my bedroom's litter box (there's a reason why I keep extra pillows on my bed and keep a can of air freshener on my headboard). Oh, and Valiant will find either a ball of yarn, that big ugly rat shaped toy from grandma, or even an old sock...will grab it in his mouth and go from room to room doing a muffled "kitten call". Yay, the great hunter has caught food and wants us all to wake up to dine and show appreciation (lately he's been going into my son's room for the loudest part of his mrrrofffs, thank goodness).

On a good night, a kitty doesn't race from floor to bed to headboard book case to dresser, knocking a big heavy book on my skull. Usually it's Angel but sometimes it's Serena or Cyrano.

This stuff happens every night...and I don't want to come downstairs after each incident to update this post...

She just finished knocking stuff off a counter. Exhausted I suspect she's contemplating a nap.
