Why pick on the Christians? Witches use a scourge. Muslims flog wrongdoers, Fakirs put hooks through their faces, everyone is entitled to their path to God.
Why should anyone of faith be criticised because their erotic leanings may contradict what the tenets of their religion dictate? It's a personal choice and a personal struggle to follow a chosen path, or not.
I'm no Christian. But I have the greatest respect for them.

Atheist here. Doesn't effect my interactions with the bdsm community too much, though I often wonder what would happen if I had a master who wanted me to convert - not sure I'm genuinely able to believe in Christian or most other theologies.

I'm a non practing Post Modern Chruddhislamic where we follow the divine word of the Lord as written on the Holy Bar Napkin one night via a reached revelation at our local IHOP sermon. It reads "Thou Shall Do Whatever One Desires With Whatever Combination of Holy Quotes from Whatever Peice of Dogma To Soothe Any Spiritual Crisis Or Sense of Value That Thou Might Have In Opposition To It"

There must be a Christian Mistress. As such, she can be your gateway to Christ.

Similar to but not the same as an old idea where the pope was the gateway to god, and the heirarchy within the church looked up to the pope to look to god, and etc, etc...

The issue is finding a Mistress Christian enough to not cause a conflict with Christ.

Personally, I have issues terribly trying to reconcile my relationship with my idea of religion... and I do sometimes have issues. But if your Mistress is Christian enough, there will be no conflict of interest...

I'm generally a "pagan". I used to be very much against Christianity but now I pretty much don't care... There's a few Christians in the arts/music scene that I'm friends with anyways. I dunno what I'd do in the case of having a Master who was Christian -- I'd probably get along with Him as long as he didn't try to convert me or anything...

I think nowadays I have more of a problem with militant atheists. I mean if you're an atheist fine, but I got talked down to by a very militant right-wing atheist a few years ago...

Okay.. I'm lazy, didn't bother reading every post, and am quite possibly repeating someone else here.

But, hey, my opinion to the original question will not change regardless of who else may have said it, or something close to it.

It merely adds credibility to the viewpoint if they have.

So.. here's what I think...

I think when you get down to the fundamentals.. a Christian believes in God, believes that Christ was his son sent here to make the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and was resurrected. They have accepted Christ as their savior, and understand that they are guilty of sin (otherwise why would Jesus have needed to die?) and not perfect, but strive to become moreso.

All the rest.. the different denominations, and the individuals in each of those denominations, makes it very muddy water to tread in, indeed. As I posted recently.. you can ask three different clergy about the morality of something, and get three different answers. Throw various churches into the equation.. and we're talking about vastly different OPINIONS.

I'm settling out some for myself as we speak.

I guess the conclusion that I have come to is that if I can see harm in it for myself or someone else, it's probably not the right thing to do. That is why not only Christians, but the majority of society as a whole, think that things like adultery, murder, stealing, etc.. are wrong.

I don't get the whole anti-sexuality thing. Never have, never will. It is probably because they believe by reinforcing modesty they will encourage people to wait to be married before becoming sexually active. I admit, I wish I'd waited.. but I didn't have much of a choice in the matter anyway, so my control was limited. I definitely followed up with some pretty stupid decisions though...

Why this emphasis on waiting, and fidelity? Well it's very logical really. STDs suck. Personally I've had partners who had been unfaithful to me... and my biggest problem with it was what they exposed me to without my knowledge or consent.

Anyway..

Christianity and BDSM don't seem at all mutually exclusive to me, so what's the big deal?

I am not a Christian and do not follow any "organized" religion, the closest I could come to what I am is wiccan and even that does not hit the nail on the head.

Religions (based usually on nothing more than old texts that have been long since been lost in translation, not to mention twisted by man, down through the centuries) have resulted in the persecution and deaths of vast numbers of people.

I'm a spiritual person - I believe in God. I don't follow any particular religion, because I feel that my relationship with a higher power is intensely personal and doesn't need to be expressed through any one set of practices, tenets or dogmas. That said, I do very much like the ritual of Mass - it's very soothing and reminds me of my childhood. So, I go every once in awhile.

Yea, this -is- an old thread!

I know several people who are devout Christians. The interesting thing is, none of them are part of a -religion- or -church-. They are the most beautiful and serene people. Their relationship with God does not come from a church, it comes from their internal heart connection to the divine. They pray, read the bible, and do not proselytize, but are happy to talk about it if you ask them. They live their faith, not wearing it like a coat, but it is part of their whole being. They are amazing to be around as they have a deep sense of wonder and excitement, with a rock steady underlying feel to them.
