"Hell is other people" - Sartre.

Mind you he was French and so, therefore, were his mates, so it's no surprise he came to that conclusion

Although IIRC he was into Polyamory, so maybe we shouldn't judge too harshly

Sometimes I watch that programme 'Survivors' and I think to myself: 'Sure they don't have clean water, electricity, access to medical attention but they can drive down the motorway on a horse.'

As long as someone remembered to feed the horses.

For the record I'm an agnostic - atheists are a bit too smug in their certainty for me.  But one thing's for sure - atheists are much saner and more rational than religious people.  One of the latter, in fact, is about to seal the deal and condemn this and future generations to a world of drought, chaos and conflict, all because he's sure that God will protect us from climate change.  How does he know?  Why, because it says so in a book called Genesis.  No, I am not making this up.  In Congress.  In 2010.  In the U.S., not Afghanistan or Iran.

They do, however, know the difference between logic and idiocy.

And seem to somehow manage creativity:

We have seen plenty of evidence on these boards that not all Athiests know the difference between Logic and Idiocy.

What do you think of Aetheists?

Smite 'em. Smite 'em all to hell. Smite their children and their families. Smite everyone who knows them. Smite until even the memory of them is gone. For that is the path of righteousness. Amen.

I had to comment on this, only because I popped in here to take a break from my NaNoWriMo composition and this one remark caught my eye as part of another response.

Personally, I don't see a correlation between atheism and imagination -- of course, maybe that comes from having spent 20 years as a published speculative fiction writer who has -all kinds- of fascinating stories running around in my brain all the time, but... ya know... I think this is a missed correlation. *grins*

This entire thread is a giant pile of missed correlations

Well if it's a choice between hanging out with the irrational ones or hanging out with a condescending little twit, I think I will stick with the religious folk.

But we do know when to capitalize.

And if you're lucky we'll teach you basic grammar.

Maybe so.

But I can only draw from my own experiences.

And those have, in general, shown me that the devoutly religious tend to do exactly what the the poster above suggested.

If you do not believe the same way they do you are deemed unworthy.

I would not call myself devout but I do practice and believe and I find you a good hearted person that has many opposing views to me. Unworthy would never enter my thoughts. In fact most here on CM that I believe are religious seem to get along quite well with you and enjoy the debate of ideas. Why do you think otherwise?

Butch

Butch, I'm not necessarily talking about CM but my experiences in real life.

Just a couple examples, though I could list many, I have a cousin who became "born again" and after most of the family asked him politely to quit proselytizing he abandoned the family.

I was involved with a girl who also became "born again" and the relationship ended because I would not do the same.

I love that word so, so much. Sounds like it should be sexual.

"Fancy a bit of proselytising darling?"

"Ooh! Rather!"

I think it is sexual in a twisted way for those that do it.

All that loving Jesus stuff seems kind of weird to me.

Never mind about God - I'll fucking smite you in a minute, sunshine

It's odd if God does ride a Harley though - I thought he had a downer on gays?
