This is precisely the dialog I was hoping for. I do think philslave is right in that mainstream culture clearly uses the word in derogatory sense, but I LIKE what kiwisub says. The word can be applied with love, and yes, many women here revel in their sexuality and have adopted the term, turning it on its head and declaring themselves sluts proudly. The use on CM is so interesting.

You may want to look up previous posts from philslave, then you will see why the mainstream derogatory sense appeals to him

As for "sister" - not sure if you insulted my parents or your parents

there are quite a few words were the dictionary definitions and colloquial usage differ... i don't really see why it's such a big deal (to some people) that "slut" is in that category. (or well, i guess i do get it, depending on how those "some people" view other particular kinds of people, but i digress...)
to me, there are "good sluts," and "bad sluts." =p simple!

To me, slut is a term of endearment. A compliment. A woman that enjoys sex and doesn't hide, there is nothing wrong with any of it !!! Much better then the opposite, wouldn't we agree?

I hate the word with a passion - but it is useful as a filter....

I see "slut" in a sub's profile (or esp screen name), I've read enough and head for the 'X' in the top right corner.

Focus.

I tend to hit the "X" button on all sorts of screen names, like 'harddick4u" 'slutabuser', 'strictmaster', hardcoremeandude'.... etc etc etc.

So your penchant for screening mates isn't bad or anything....

I also screen out men that talk about being 'firm but compassionate', 'strict when necessary', in their profile descriptions... I do understand that all of these things may appeal to someone else, even if they do not appeal to me. I think a lot of men are looking for a 'slut during the night time and a prim gal by day' sort...

Its called different flavors for different folks.

I think its called the evolution of the English language.

Evolution would indicate using words incorrectly, ignorantly and changing the meaning was a positive thing. I would argue it was rather than evolution of language, it was far more hijacking and misinterpretation becoming mainstream.

Since you do not like the evolution of language, perhaps you could help these scholars as you might be the only one that can decipher this

I like it and I use it.

She likes it, and we both identify with it together.

We had discussions on the use of the title and the context in which we place it.

we are both sluts... and yes, very very dirty.

[/blockquote]Not that I'm out to write a dictionary.  But I'd like to hear from others on this.  Is the term more than just a derogatory cliche?

To me, on a site like this, the term slut means a woman that enjoys sex, more sex than the average (1 time/wk) female. It differentiates us sluts from those women that pretend to enjoy sex until they get the ring on their fingers and then shut the door on those goodies and manipulate their hubbys by using sex as a reward or deny them sex as punishment.

I enjoy sex for many reasons but that does not mean I have sex with strangers, for me I look for someone to have sex with love and all that. Sex to me is intertwined with love, its a way of celebrating that love... within that relationship and love, I am a slut (his slut)

and that term for me is only reserved for someone I care very much for and in that situation, it is a term of endearment to me, but i am very put off if a stranger uses that term with me.. he assumes something that is not reserved for him, it is something beyond his reach and always will be..

imo, you are a "man slut". Is that better?
I have a male friend that has described himself as a "man whore" cuz he was fucking a lot of women during the same span of time... I was amused that he referred to himself like that but it was accurate imo, not that he was really a whore since he didnt fuck for $, it just meant he had tons of kinky sex every night with one or more from his harem...

I have a love/hate relationship with "slut," honestly. Said in the heat of the moment, it can help me let go of the last of my reserves. Said with love, it can be an endearment. But I've heard it from the lips of so many woman-hating pricks that just use Domination as a way to cover up their own insecurities by demeaning the woman involved that I have to have a fairly close relationship with someone before I can accept the word comfortably.

Basically, if someone loves me and isn't trying to tear me down with it, I consent to and like it. If they're using it to tear me down, they're going to get warned once that I don't like it and any further use has consequences.

Hahahahaha the Daily Mail.

The Sunday Times featured it too... Does that make it more respectable now?

I'm half with you, PhilSlave, and half not. I, too, get all bent out of shape when words are used in a way not defined in the dictionary. BUT....that is the evolution of the English language. That's what hijacking and misinterpretation becoming mainstream is. The dictionary is constantly being revised to reflect how words are actually used. We don't forever have to be bound to a single definition just because someone wrote it once somewhere.

Since you evidently don't actually understand the meaning of the word, you're a fine one to talk

Yup, the more ignorant a society the more it defines itself by its ignorance, fluidity and language though are different to wanton hijacking of a word because it's not liked and actively promoting this meaning to the mainstream or re-branding homosexuals as 'Gays' because it sounds nicer. Not meant as a derogatory statement on homosexuality or homosexual people.

I thought Slut was a noun to describe, dirty slovenly or immoral women and sometimes prostitutes. I can't see how any woman would be proud to be called that... or is it yet another word that has been hijacked by a specific group like gay. In this case, dirty slovenly, immoral women and prostitutes and they want it to mean we're proud to be dirty, slovenly and immoral women and or prostitutes and we want that to become a mainstream, alternative aspiration for other people, 'cause it ain't that bad a thing 'ta' be', is it?

A prostitute gets paid.

Im a slut. I fuck because it feels good.

Im a selective slut. I decide who I fuck.

A slut has no inhibitions. When with someone I love, I hold nothing back.

When he calls me a slut, its spoken with love, and lust.

Of course there will always be people who believe that because I admit Im a slut, I will fuck them too.

Imagine their surprise when I tell them to go fuck themselves.

Sigh.... and the more ignorant and arrogant the commentators upon Society become, it seems.

The word slut has, for a very long time, been used, very widely, to describe a sexually promiscuous woman. As has been pointed out, promiscuity is judged (by ignorant jackasses) differently in women when compared to men.

When a woman proudly claims to be a slut, she isn't changing the meaning one bit - and if you were half as clever as you think you are, that would be evident to you. What she is seeking to change and challenge is society's pitifully outdated idea that a woman being a slut is a bad or "immoral" thing.

Slut (noun): A woman who can put pride, ego, and shame away as she pursues sexual pleasure.

I see nothing wrong with this definition.

What's more, I see no shame in a woman calling herself a slut.

A person, ANY PERSON, who goes after what they want, even sex...in my book, is better than those who sit on their thrones and look down their noses because THEY don't have the guts to do the same.

Liking sex, going after sex just for the sake of sex...there is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as all parties enjoy themselves and no one get's hurt. It's the pompous, nose in the air, stuck up, moral asses who put a 'bad' spin on the word.

My thoughts...fuck them...if they don't have the balls to go after what they want, then they can sit back and watch ME go after what THEY want.
