Nosathro -> RE: "Stand Your Ground" law under attack.... (5/10/2012 10:23:41 AM)

Now here a few interesting observations:

If you need 300 guns to shoot a deer, may be hunting is not your sport.

"If guns were the answer to the threat of violent crime,
we’d sell them at police headquarters."
Neil Behrens, former Chief, Baltimore County, MD Police Department

"70 percent of all murders are committed with guns. We should also consider a failure any "deterrence" that is correlated to the very crime it is supposed to deter. But most damagingly, the FBI deems only 1 percent of all murders to be "justifiable homicides" using a firearm. Statistics from the nation's largest crime survey also show that a gun in 19 times more likely to be used in nonfatal crime than in nonfatal self-defense."

In situations where a firearm is not the best answer you don't have to pull it if you have one.
In situations where a firearm is the best answer you can't pull it if you don't have one.

A couple of interesting observations.

If you have a lot of guns, maybe you are a collector.

The Fraternal Order of Police are one of the main proponents of having a totally unarmed population. They also probably wish video cameras were illegal for civilian use. I wonder why?[8|]

That is the question that has yet to be answered. Who decides when to use them. Law Enforcement has training and experience the citizen has what? A safety class? a week at a school to get a CCW?

this is just half true...I think we are in alot of trouble.

BamaD -> RE: "Stand Your Ground" law under attack.... (5/10/2012 12:37:30 PM)

I am retired military was trained by a police officer have worked with law enforcement.
I have allowed a mugging of myself because the situation endangered an innocent child if I had started shooting.
I believe that I have good enough judgement to decide when to use force and certainly better judgement to decide about the situation than someone else a hundred miles away who has never had a weapon pointed at them.
You must not believe people have the right to defend themselves otherwise you would not want to deprive them of the means to do so.

Not actually true in every case.
A handgun is more or less worthless as a deterrent as it requires demonstration. There's no point having one, never mind pulling it on somebody, unless you're ready to kill them.
(This is why the Police over here carry big sticks rather than firearms as a matter of course, though that may well be about to change in the latest round of government cost cutting.)

I have never said that people do not have the right to own firearms nor the right to defended themselves.

Then what point are you trying to make, or are you just projectile vomiting?

Oh trust me, they wish at this point that they could smash em on your head and arrest you in the process. My hat cam drives em fucking crazy.

BamaD -> RE: "Stand Your Ground" law under attack.... (5/10/2012 3:47:36 PM)

I agree if I have to pull it I will kill the person I pull it on.

Don't think anyone is suggesting it guarantees safety. But carrying one does give you an option that you otherwise would not have.

yeah, showing how dangerous and inept you are AT A WHOLE NEW LEVEL.

Maybe if that person is dangerous and inept to begin with.

It's my opinion that there are so few areas where carrying is REALLY warranted that most who want fit that exact category.
I'm not a big Nugent fan myself. And I am not real fond of stubby little guns . I have the proper tools for my sport and don't feel the need to exaggerate my manhood.

And yet you keep teling us that to own a gun or to carry one is more dangerous than puting our safety in the hands of the thugs .

If I thought it prudent to pull out my weapon I would still try to avoid shooting it if at all possible and hope I might scare the bad guys away. Don't get me wrong. I would follow through if necessary but I would rather not answer a bunch of questions from the police and I don't want to be the next Zimmerman.

Interesting you put it that way, being as the Zimmerman case is high profile for but one reason only.

I guess, like others here, you feel a dead kid is of no consequence. I would suggest a kid being shot while walking home from the shops is indeed high profile.
