I think you need something to bang THEIR head on.

I don't think that would make them any smarter, as satisfying as it would be

scientists need to get on curing mental impotence

like a Viagra for the brain, put it in darts and let a few good men and women into the creationist museum and have at it

JanahX -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:30:46 PM)

These people are really unfortunate.
And you'd be sadly mistaken if you thought that they wernt dead serious too.

When people start talking about shit like that to me, I tell them they need to get out of my house.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:31:44 PM)

You let those people into your HOUSE???

You never know...

I think we need some peer reviewed empirical evidence!

For science people, for science!

Won't work. There is a fundamental human failure when it comes to certain abstract concepts.
Some people just ascribe to certain beliefs in such an absolute fashion that they are incapable of believing otherwise.

There are some phenomenally well educated and intelligent people that absolutely believe in Creationism. In their mind there is no conflict of information, and no amount of dialog or proof short of literally divine intervention would convince them otherwise.

OsideGirl -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:34:56 PM)

We have one friend that thinks that the moon landing was fake.

PyrotheClown -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:35:07 PM)

I once had a coworker who I thought was just a laid back hippie, we're bout to leave a site, eating lunch and he decides to sit next to me..ok I thought, this should be pleasant.. then for the next forty minutes he talks my ear off bout daemons and angels ect.ect.ect.and how the angels saved his life ect.ect.ect.and how the daemons used to taunt him ect.ect.ect.

You wouldn't believe how tempted I was to spittle my half eaten food all over myself, speak fake Latin and roll my eyes back

JanahX -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:38:06 PM)

Not after they start going on about shit like that - the moose print/fed guy kinda threw me off guard too - cause I knew him for quite some time, and that was a first. He was always really mellow before that. Ive heard some doozers -
but that one was C-L-A-S-S-I-C.

I actually don't see the conflict between creationism and evolution, at least when it comes to Christianity. I don't see why the world couldn't have evolved after it was made. However, I am not a Christian, so I wouldn't say I was really qualified to say too much about that. I know a few notable stories, and that's it.

GreedyTop -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:42:36 PM)

Yeah, but Lana.. you are rational. The fundies generally are NOT.

SpaceSpank -> RE: I need something to bang my head on.... (8/13/2012 12:46:00 PM)

The conflict comes in that hardcore creationists only think the world is at most... MAYBE a few hundred thousand years old... and that's if you find ones that are open to a bit more generous timelines.

The ones that put up stuff like the creationist museums think the world is only 6-7k years old, and that we walked hand in hand (or hand in tail, whatever) with all the dinosaurs, etc.

They also tend to have no belief in evolution at all. Everything was mad as it is right now at the formation of the earth... there was no evolving.

Now, you are correct to say there doesn't need to be any conflict between Christianity and Evolution really, that's true at least unless we actually do ever discover how the universe was created... but that's a whole different situation than a creationist.

The bible contradicts evolution, humans didn't walk
with dinosaurs as far as we can tell by the fossil record
they are hundreds of millions of years seperated.
So the earth seems to be more than 10,000years old.

There are countless number of discrepancies.
You don't see the conflict?

It's on another forum I belong to. She's got some odd views. She thinks hurricanes hitting Florida and New Orleans are punishment for allowing gays.

I don't think I could have resisted, maybe just a little joke like "Father Satan, we got him convinced the angels saved him, he's going to trust our agents now..."
