Your son sounds like a smart kid. Have you told him that it was a thought experiment and that one do not actually harm a cat? But yes if one was to avoid that problem with the cat observing one would have to use a life form that can not observe, perhaps a plant, but the problem is that as a Pagan I sort of think all life forms have some form of consciousness, even crystals and rocks have some degree of consciousness about them. The question still remains, if something happened and no one with a mind observed it, did it then actually happen or is it our mind and observation that causes things to happen, that shapes reality itself?

Interestingly enough this idea can also be used for magick, if reality is malleable and is part of our consciousness or made by it that means that we can change it by changing our consciousness, quite interesting really.

I wish you well

I have the Alchemy deck. For what it is, it's rare and a beauty. Alchemy is a company that makes what I call "Gothica" ie various stuff a Goth would decorate with, or wear as jewelry. Some of it a cheap derivative from actual magickal trappings and amulets; some of it startlingly accurate replicas. The deck is a composite of various poster art they sold and arranged as a deck. So each of the cards are beautiful in their composition, but the whole deck lacks cohesion; lacking any unified vision within and between suits. It would be like making a Tarot out of all the Thanksgiving pictures and family dinner pictures father made and arranging all the arguments and smiles into the Major Arcana etc.

...ok maybe your family Thanksgivings went better than that. Mine was always a cross between Monty Python and a Cage Fight.

I digress.... The Alchemy deck, pretty, yes I own it and it is in the collection. I bought it because it was in print in the 1970s and went out of print. Recently a number of printed but uncut proofs of the deck were found and they are on sale again for a very brief period of time. I am guessing they had located less than 100 decks. my consultant said 40 decks were discovered. (Consultant Maragret Mannatt, Sacramento, Margaret Mannett Books - all must love Margaret and despair you don't have enough cash to buy more books! She is a brilliant appraiser and curator of unusual books.)

Oh I am very familiar with Alchemy Gothic I have many jewelry pieces from them. I am a follower of the Gothic lifestyle. Ah so the Alchemy Gothic deck is not designed as a Tarot they have just taken posters and slapped card names on them, that is a disappointment. I might still get it for the artwork but that do indeed sound like a deck that is jumbled and not focused.

Our family do not celebrate Thanksgiving as we are Norwegian but I do get the point. Yeah most of my family gatherings go rather well.

Ah unusual and rare books. I love those. I love books in general. Aswad despairs as I fill the house with books. :P

Thank you for the information.

I wish you well

Oh exiting, what deck are you getting. I recommend actually starting with the Raider White. Now to me this is a somewhat boring deck, however so many modern decks are based on it that learning how to use it properly is very useful when moving on to other decks later, and besides many like the RW deck for itself to and it is a good deck to do divination with. In either case good luck with your first Tarot deck. I hope you will love it and find it enlightening.

I wish you well

Hi Nephandi, just watched your Youtube overview of the Mage Tarot, very comprehensive, I much prefer the art work on the first edition, rather than the second. There's a list of other things you've done, that I'll be looking at in the near future .

About the pricing, out of interest I googled up Amazon, & I don't know why, but it is so much more expensive in the UK than in the USA or the rest of Europe. Prices for buying in the UK range from £130 - £495. As the exchange rate is around $1.80 to the £, you can appreciate my shock.

Thanks very much for putting it on Youtube, brilliant.

Best wishes, Gary.

The artwork is mostly the same but the first edition one is more vibrant. Yeah I have done quite a few videos, mostly occult topics but a bit about science fiction, fantasy and horror as well, and some videos about the Gorean lfiestyle.

I usually find collectible Tarot decks and books much more expensive to buy from England than from USA, I do not know why that is though.

That's funny, someone should've said that to me 240 decks ago. I don't know any mechanic that buys tools this way.

What most people call impulse, we call intuition .

Well I would say yes and no. My favorite Tarot Deck the Cosmic Tarot was an impulse buy so sometimes I definitively think that intuition play a part, but then sometimes impulse buys are just a desire for instant gratification also, one get caught in the oh shiny impulse and things ends up not being used. I think the ability to separate between the two are an important skill to develop but also a difficult one.

250 decks that is not bad. I have not counted how many I have, it is a few dozen but it is not that many. I do have a few oracle decks as well but even you have quite the collection then. :O

I wish you both well

Court Cards

I just read in one of my books, discussing the frustrations of asking about situations or events and receiving one or more court cards in the response, the suggestion to remove all court cards from the deck and not to use them for the reading. The author uses one only as a significator. She says the minor and major arcana will give you the precise answer without the frustration of trying to interpret a court card, which she says represent people, where a person doesn't make sense as the answer.

This appeals to me because I have a hell of a time interpreting court cards, and I almost always get more than one in a reading. What do you guys think about that? Do you think we would miss out by leaving the court cards out of the deck?

I recall reading about someone who was proficient at laying the Tarot. Discussing the Tarot with another person, that person claimed that it would make no difference whatsoever if he attributed the opposite meaning to each card. The proficient layer tried it out and concluded that the claim was true.

It is just a bunch of cards with no meaning whatsoever. The meaning is in the person opposite you that you are communicating with by means of the Tarot.
