I find it humerous that morons believe in abstinence.

I can understand why people would be opposed to abstinence-ONLY education but what the fuck can possibly be wrong with taking the time to teach kids that if they abstain from sex they can avoid the problems?

No one has said that they may not be taught about abstinance.

But if we think abstinence is okay then we're morons?

I am not against talking about abstinance, it is as I said a rather short conversation, because nobody is gonna look at pictures of syphllitic lesions and connect it when you say if you dont fuck you wont get these, (because living in the same house we have seen our dads pecker before and our moms vajayjay) and they aint got em........you are headed to reefer madness territory with that lame shit.

Might as well have Father Fridgen come speak to the group....foam and rubbers, foam and rubbers.

When they showed me that shit in sex ed it sure made an impression on me. Yeah, it didn't stop me from having sex at a young age but at least it made me a little more careful about choosing who to stick my pecker in. Especially after some of my friends all got the clap from one of the "easy" girls.

With abstinence-only education, I totally agree.

Because someone on the other side said it was a good idea which automatically makes it evil and stupid.

Hey, those pics slowed us down, no harm in that, and I looked for those lesions first time I did a meat injection which wasn't too long after that, so it is the efficaicy of the thing that makes me think, why put a great deal of effort into something with such pitiful return?

In the end of the day, this ain't gonna be Save the Children.

Here's a question I'd like to know the answer to...and I'll accept whatever the truth is...

...who has more unwanted pregnancies or STD infections...children of liberal parents or children of conservative parents?

I don't think that study has been undertaken. What if the male is conservative and the female liberal?  where does that go, as opposed to the female conservative and the male liberal?

And I don't think you would get any reasonable result because of the underage nature of the child, unwanted pregnancy or STD, and the fact that it wouldnt be traceable back to the parents even if it could be traceable to the underage (which it certainly isnt) child to any sort of pollster looking to make a fucked up poll on that.

Because in this instance, every return on this investment far exceeds the minor costs of time and words spent.

Yeah, no.  Both ways.  You aint saving shit, number one, and you cannot other than imagine that one was saved from having sex today tomorrow and the next day, up until the 'proper' time that is your subjective definition.

Nah, like telling ants to stay off the sidewalk.

It's really more of a curiosity question. I was thinking in terms of parents with similar views on sex education. And I agree, you probably couldn't ever get honest results if you tried a real study.

Well, point to Palins kid and the jig is up, innit?

Anecdotal as well as laughable, really. Tilting at windmills.

It is as best a feel-good thing. Like the crack troops guarding the perimeters of freedom at our airports and inspecting luggage for abusers of the 4 oz liquid rules.

Sorry, tail. I don't buy that. It sounds like a cop out. Your pessimism versus my optimism, I guess.

Why? You're gonna get data of all kinds. I'm sure there are liberal parents whose kids totally abstain as well.

Yeah, I don't see the analogy.

Unplanned pregnancies and teen pregnancies are most common in states considered conservative, and rates have gone up since abstinence only became the norm in sex ed.
STD infection rates is more distributed but the rates in the southern conservative states are above the national average.

Exactly to the first, and that leaves us with no light, and I am sorry you don't see the analogy.  But it is there, nonetheless.

Teaching abstinence is a feel good thing, thats it, it has no viability.  To mention it in passing may or may not do some good, but any pedagogic furtherance of that foolishness is simply that.

Mississippi has the largest rate of STD infections, teen pregnancies and infant mortality in the country and the state is mostly conservative. But I really don't think that it can be quantified which group has more pregnancies/STD's because many people who are otherwise conservative may be very liberal regarding sex ed and many people who are otherwise liberal may be very conservative regarding sex ed. I have never met anyone who believed that abstinence should not be taught or given as an option at all. (whether they think it works or not.) But I know a great number of people who believe that abstinence ONLY is an effective sex-ed program and should be the only option taught. The fact that the stats prove abstinence only does not work doesn't matter to those people.

Until about a year ago it was illegal to teach anything but abstinence ONLY in Mississippi schools. That law has changed to allow abstinence-plus, but the vast majority of schools refuse to teach anything other than abstinence only. Only 34 schools in Mississippi agreed last year to allow teaching abstinence-plus. There are 1097 public schools in this state. (what is that about 2%)?

To be blunt, Ken, this is exactly what I'd expect you to say...but if you've got some data from credible sources (meaning, not some progressive website bullshit) I'd be happy to check it out.

The reality being that absinence is not a big draw in the animal kingdom.  How you make that better is gonna be some real fantasy.
