Very simple, because it's not the wasting away, if you are bullimic you throw up, your stomach acid can seriously cause harm (to the point of ulcers and in the most extreme case cancer), it's acid on your larynx for example, the acid ruins your teeth, it's a way of self-harming. You wouldn't tell a cutter that since they have been cutting themselves until the age of 28 it's not a big deal and they will never get an infection, or somebody who's been a smoker or a heavy drinker for 2 decades, that obviously their body can take it...

Or maybe I am having a hard time believing that she has actually gone 16 years without any food and still weighs over 300 pounds.

She didn't say she has gone 16 years without any food, are seeing things? Eating disorders are a bit complicated, I'm having trouble believing that some people judge when they obviously haven't got a clue, but it shouldn't really surprise me.

I think you should ask him what exactly you can do, especially if you can walk.

I can't really walk yet anyways...just getting to the bottom of the stairs of my apartment and I have to sit down and rest for several minutes b/c the pain is too much. I do that at least twice a day though. Go down the stairs, sit and rest...and go back up. It's really pretty pathetic.

Stairs are a lot harder than walking, especially when one is overweight. When the weather traps me inside, I make excuses to go up and down the stairs. (I'm not recommending this for you while you need to rest, just talking about my experience.)

Why Being Overweight Causes Pain: 5 Facts

Obesity does not directly cause osteoarthritis, but it increases the amount of stress that the weight-bearing joints must carry and contributes to joint wear and tear. Here are five facts about how obesity and arthritis are linked.

Walking

If you are obese, your knees and hips experience up to three times as much pressure with each step.

Climbing stairs

If you are obese, your knees and hips experience up to six times as much pressure when walking down a flight of stairs.

Weight gain increases risk

For every 10 pounds of excess weight gained, the risk of developing osteoarthritis increases by approximately 40 percent.

More than just the hips or knees

Obesity is a risk factor for developing arthritis in the knees, hips, hands and ankles.

I'm sure one of your docs has recommended this before, but sleeping with your feet raised helps with the edema, also pretty mild herbal teas that are slightly diuretic, there is a tea made from green oats (hence green oat tea) that helps with a lot of different cases of arthritis and is generally a pretty good cleaning agent as it washes you out, you have to steep it for 10 minutes though to get the ingredients out, because it's so cleansing it's excellent for kidneys and ideal for any urinary tract infections, a pretty good but very very mild detox, it also gets rid of uric acid.

Should be available in health food stores, in case you can't find it, shoot me a PM, I usually order it from Germany where it's pretty much the thing people do when they have a urinary tract infection, or gout or arthritis problems, their liver results are a bit off, etc. First thing most docs recommend or actually ask if you've done that, before they prescribe stuff, if you got a PO box or anything, I'll send it to you.

For your skin problem, I checked with a friend of mine who's a dermatologist in Austria, he said you've possibly had the whole lecture about the antiseptic soaps, trying to avoid synthetic clothing, keeping the areas dry and all that already, but you should try to find a store with natural remedies, or even better a bee keeper (cheaper and better quality) and buy yourself some propolis creme, it's a natural antiseptic that should avoid infections, not very expensive, you need very very little of it and it is extremely effective and over the counter...

I didn't think of asking him when we were on the phone, but just explaining what the propolis creme is, I would think that tea tree oil would also work wonders for you?

I use Dr. Bronner's tea tree oil soap...if I use regular tea tree oil I have to dilute it b/c it causes severe topical burns. I actually had to go to the doctor last time I used it...thought the tingly was just the tea tree oil working...but it was actually burning off my skin LOL I had thick chunks of skin peel off and it bled loads...I've been afraid to use tea tree oil again since then. So I just use the soap.

I know being a whale makes my pain worse but it's not the only cause of my pain...the doctor fractured my back during surgery. :(

You got surgery because of degenerative bone disease most likely caused by morbid obesity and immobility.

Go see a nutritionist, hop in the pool, and quit making excuses for yourself. Changes can be made, but the longer you wait, the less likely anything will be effective.

I've seen several dietitians over the years... but I have emailed my doctor and requested a referral to see another one. But my doctors out of the office until Monday so I have to wait a bit. I can't do pool PT for at least another 8 weeks...doctor said it could make the fracture worse.

I was going to the gym a couple times a week before surgery...I had a membership to the YMCA.

I quit.

Save up your money now so you can afford a private room in the nursing home. It's generally a grand or more a month.

You don't know the doctor fractured a bone during surgery, you are assuming that's how it happened. Wasn't this surgery to your neck? So sitting on the couch doing leg lifts likely aren't an issue. Its a minor enough fracture he didn't give you a neck brace to keep your neck stbalized. Twisting and turning in bed is just as hazardous to a fractured neck as exercize.
So this neurologist gave you information that fits what you want, so no second opinion needed from say an orthpedist who know more about bones or even another nerologist. Or perhaps a claim that medicaid doesn't pay for second opinions?

All this talk about plans to have begun exercising, but all the excuses not to. Climbing stairs shouldn't be causing pain in your neck. Lower back, hips, kneews? Sure. Neck pain so bad you need to rest and the neurologist tol you NO exercise at all? Don't believe it.

As someone said earlier, you seemed to have gathered the most inept medical team possible.

It wasn't on my neck...it was on my facet joints which are in my lower back. This was the first time I saw this doctor...I saw a different one a few weeks ago.

My point was I know that stairs might be too much for you at this time, and to ask the doctor about walking. Not power walking, but strolling down the block.

Also pool PT might be too strenuous, but are there modifications you can do? What about walking around in the pool?

I have to go down the stairs to get to a place to walk...

Walking around in the pool sounds like a good idea. I need to save up for a new swim suit though as I can't fit into the one I have. :(

Saw the neurosurgeon this morning...he says that the surgery caused a fracture and that he can't even see anything in my facet joints that they were supposed to of put in there during surgery. He says I can't do physical therapy for at least 8 weeks to see if it will heal. He prescribed flexeril (sp?) and refills on the hydrocodone. I go back in 8 weeks to see if the fracture is healing and then maybe start PT. He is going to do some research on the surgery...he thinks the doctor basically committed medicaid fraud. We will see what happens.

Did you tell this new doctor that you are likely a much slower than average healer?
Did you explain that you are bulimic and can't possibly get adequate nutrition to facilitate healing?

I told him I don't eat much. Then he suggested gastric bypass. LOL

Does anyone know if Flexeril can cause an increase in appetite? Cuz I've been feeling super hungry today and I don't like it. I'm not used to feeling hungry like ever... >.<

Try and find the propolis cream, and try it out carefully to make sure you have no reaction, I use it even on cuts or burns but if you're sensitive, best be careful

http://www.livestrong.com/article/275989-propolis-for-eczema/

As for tea tree oil, yes, if you do have sensitive skin, I'd dilute the tea tree oil with some other oil:

Add 1 tsp. of tea tree oil to 2 tbsp. of carrier oil, such as avocado oil. Mix well.

Use a cotton ball or cotton swab to apply this mixture to places on the body where psoriasis, eczema or a rash exists. Use a blotting motion on the affected area as opposed to a rubbing motion.

Flip the cotton ball or cotton swab over and use the other side of the cotton ball or cotton swab to wick away any excess liquid on the body.

I added it to my watch list on amazon. Will order some when I have the money. I don't have psoriasis or eczema or anything like that though.

another thing good for skin where you rub or sweat is natural salt mineral deodorant

Its cheap and an individual crystal lasts years .. and its very effective at killing bacteria with no side effects.

It works just as well under arms as it does under breasts or other skin folds .. so any where you sweat that skin rubs together it can help

I have natural E sized breasts and used to suffer from skin rashes and such in hot weather , especially if I worked out the extra sweat combined with movement just made the skin under my breasts red raw .... and now I get zero symptoms or reactions.

Buy the pure crystal .... which you can get in plain blocks for few dollars ... or ones already shaped and in a handy container .... not the ones claiming to be mineral that are sprays or roll ons as they have other chemicals which you can be sensitive to.

I have seen them on sale in chemists, health food stores .. and some super markets

Your condition has the same outward triggers as psoriasis or eczema, anything that kills bacteria and heals should give you ease.

What you could do is put in your post code and look for bee keepers in your area, you might get it much purer and cheaper from them. Also try the green oat tea, not only will the cleansing properties help with your condition, if you're on a lot of meds, you want to give your liver and kidneys all the help it can get, plus due to the fact that you will pee a lot, it slightly raises your metabolism. Just don't drink it a few hours before you go to bed, or you'll be getting up all night.
