Legal question: Could the present interpretation of the U.S. Constitution allowing for abortion for example be upheld if there were a new Protestant Reformation where instead of moving away from the Church, the direction was to return to it?

To answer the original question as framed in the header, morality is in some ways ingrained into us as human beings. The altruism that is supposed to be part of religious teaching ... it is about survival as a species.

You argue like Moonhead who felt that I should not seek the wisdom and intercession of God and I will respond to what you are saying here as I did him.

I have already answered your question.

The problem with morality is when it cannot pass a rational test on helping human beings thrive or otherwise move forward as a species.

Morality is not solely about man. Where do you get that idea? It is about something that is just outside of his grasp. Christianity is not radical humanism. Judeo-Christians have seen what radical humanism gives birth to throughout history. If morality was not just outside the grasp of man philosophers who have devoted their lives to such questions would figured it all out by now.

What stands in the way of such a new Protestant Reformation? Pride. The Protestants, however, are aware of the role that pride had in the fall of man. The Protestants will naturally say, but what of the Catholics? Declaring Catholics your moral equal will accomplish nothing. For a time you felt it was useful to declare them your moral inferior. There is no middle ground on this one.

So tell me Protestant who are you going to intentionally side with this time around? The Devil or the Church? Can you discern the existence of an asymmetry? Or are you going to side with the Buddhists? You tell me what you must do.

Alas, why should the Protestants listen to a man such as myself posting here in this forum of all places? Broadcasting from the pit of Hell. Perhaps it is to say that the Eagle has landed.

And if you bought into it what does that say about you? Are you morally weak or morally strong?

The radical humanists hold that moral weakness is a virtue and from it will flow many riches. All we need do is believe in their ridiculous story.

Can the mind survive the pickling process? Some futurists anticipate that the mind will be able to survive the pickling process, but if the Internet is an indicator there is reason to believe that it won't.

There was a time when the academic community had a lock on the Internet and so it could be said that academic community has been exposed to the Internet for a longer period of time. Just look at what happened to their brains?

Conceit says they got smarter, but is that what really happened?

I spoke briefly about the film Mars Attacks. In the film there is a character who plays a scientist with a pipe. He said that since they were technologically advanced that it follows that their intentions are peaceful. The general in response slapped his forehead in astonishment. This sort of thing has been discussed in the scientific community for real. Why wouldn't a technologically advanced civilization be peaceful?

It is because technology is morally weak. Its concepts of altruism, for example, are weak. The mathematical theory of altruism is technological in character.

It is because technology is morally weak. Its concepts of altruism, for example, are weak. The mathematical theory of altruism is technological in character. A belief that a technologically advanced civilization may not necessarily be peaceful is an admission that the academic models are flawed.

What moral lesson does the film Mars Attacks hold? I do not wish to read too much into the film, but it does portray the Martians as a technologically advanced civilization portrayed as a civilization that abandoned all notions of superstition and taboo.

Many here clearly feel that you can make the world a better place through just the power of positive thinking or through aggressive means by getting rid of the believers. As if the world would be magically transformed into a better place if you were to disavow your baptismal vow. You wilfully bought into a lie.

A work ethic is needed to make the world a better place. Self-sacrifice is needed to make the world a better place.

Suppose I had a lot of money. Suppose I were a billionaire. How might I make this world a better place? I could date supermodels, then refrain from having sex with them. I could tell the world that money isn't everything. If you believe in love, you must be willing to make sacrifices. Instead of saving the rain forests I could promote the idea that virginity is good and encourage supermodels to take a vow of celibacy for the betterment of humanity.

Which is better? to sex a supermodel or convince her to take a vow of celibacy?
