ORIGINAL: MasterJaguar01 DINESH D'SOUZA!!!!! Ad hominems and lies - typically the best "debate" a leftist can offer Cult members are rarely able to address the argument itself There is more logic and factual information contained in one of D'Souza's nail clippings, than in every Biden worshiper on the planet combined Of course, if one is a fully indoctrinated cult member, one would associate anything coming from D'Souza with logic and factual information. Let's look at his opinion piece for logic and factual information. Shall we? First of all... this piece is an opinion based on a flawed premise and a strawman argument. He claims that the Southern Strategy (according to "processives") was comprised of coded racist language designed to appeal to southern racists, and the fact that his language is hard to identify specifically as coded racist language coupled with the fact that Nixon mildly supported civil rights legislation prove that the Southern Strategy never happened. Wow... What a strawman!!! 1. Nixon was never overtly racist He was caught on tape making horrible racist and anti-semitic remarks), but I imagine thousands of people made crude remarks like that in private in the 1960's. 2. The Southern Strategy was NEVER specifically racist. One could argue whether or not it was "dog-whistle" racism, but that misses the point. It was simply about getting more REPUBLICAN votes. If Nixon were convinced that southern black people would come out and reliably vote REPUBLICAN, he would have catered to southern black people. Nixon made the calculation that letting the southern black vote lean Democrat while he got the southern white vote to switch parties, he would end up with more votes, since whites were voting more reliably AND could give more $$$ in campaign donations. 3. The MAIN focus of the Southern Strategy was crime and "Law and order". Civil rights protests were displayed as out of control violence. Blue states and cities were advertised as hotbeds of crime. Democrats were automatically tied to the radical, violent, out-of-control leftist hippies! He KNEW this would appeal to southern white voters. (And it still does to this day!) This has been in the Republican playbook ever since, and you can see it on Fox News every single day even in present times. D;Souza's entire premise is literally ridiculous. He has a play school understanding of the Southern Strategy, and therefore his conclusions are amateur and lack any basis in fact. (And this ASIDE from the fact that he political hack and fraudster, end convicted felon (convicted of.... FRAUD)) His argument is like saying "Hitler never said that he wanted to personally rape Jews, therefore the holocaust never happened" Completely ridiculous iin the truest sense of the word. Then there is this nugget... quote:
And how many racist Dixiecrats did Nixon win for the GOP? Turns out, virtually none. Among the racist Dixiecrats, Strom Thurmond of South Carolina was the sole senator to defect to the Republicans — and he did this long before Nixon’s time. Only one Dixiecrat congressman, Albert Watson of South Carolina, switched to the GOP. The rest, more than 200 Dixiecrat senators, congressmen, governors and high elected officials, all stayed in the Democratic Party. D'Souza neglects to mention that the Southern Strategy had NOTHING to do with getting elected officials to switch parties. Again, it was about getting VOTERS to switch parties. How many Dixiecrats did Nixon ACTUALLY win for the GOP? Turns out, a shit-ton! Consider this... 1964 election: Candidate Party Electoral Votes Popular votes Lyndon B. Johnson Democratic 486 42,825,463 Barry M. Goldwater Republican 52 27,146,969 Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina vote for Goldwater 1968 election (Nixon's first presidential). Had Wallace not stepped in to pick up the Dixiecrats, their votes would have gone to Nixon Richard M. Nixon Republican 301 31,710,470 Hubert H. Humphrey Democratic 191 30,898,055 George C. Wallace American Ind 46 9,906,473 Nixon takes South Carolina, but the rest of the Goldwater states go to Wallace (and Wallace picks up Arkansas) Now lets look at 1972 Richard M. Nixon Republican 520 46,740,323 George McGovern Democratic 17 28,901,598 All Dixiecrat states become GOP No lies. No ad hominems. Just the FACTS D'Souza's opinion piece is completely destroyed.
