Greetings,

i'm sure other folks have had this problem as well. i shave my pubic hair every other day or so, but no matter what i do, (or use) i always get bad razor burn. My skin is so so sensitive....i've been told that if i continut to shave every day, my skin will become accustomed to it and it will get easier, HOWEVER, this has continued for the past 2 months with no relief in sight.

i have tried waxing, and that turned out badly b/c my skin erupted into what looked like hives for about 3 days afterwards! i have tried using various types of razors, shaving cream, conditioner, and i even use aloe vera on my skin afterwards...but i still suffer, for days at a time, terrible razor burn.

Anyone have some suggestions? Tired of being burned!

I have the same problem rain. "Goochy cream" has helped, as well as applying neosporin in a few areas after i shave. But i only shave part of the area.

honestly, some bodies just _aren't_ meant to be kept shaved. i have a friend who simply can't shave her pubic area because of this problem.

have you tried hair removal creams? they make several for use on sensitive areas.

if so, i'd say you might just not be made to shave. try keeping everything trimmed really close.

i know other products that are supposed to work, but it sound like you've tried just about everything, so i'm hesitant to sugest any. i know baby lotion after shaving and a very sharp razor works for me.
good luck!

I used to get a horrid rash from shaving no matter what i used, till i tried Nads. Its the no heat wax that is all natural ingredients. www.nads.com it worked for me anyway.

As always, your milage (or rash!) may vary.

Rain,
Generally we get razor burn because the razor is too dull. Try shaving with brand new razors for a while and see if it helps. If not, you an always try the nairs and nads of the world. Nads is the same as waxing....genital area. Well that's beyond my pain threshold. Nair stinks...however they do scent it nowadays.
Personally I shave...just whenever I get a bump I change the razor. Then no more bumps for a week or two.
Hope this helps.

Razor rash is horrible! i feel for you What ended up working for me is Nair. i only use it on my pubic mound. (i wouldn't recommend it for the lower regions) It only takes 4 minutes and then i completely wash it off in the shower. As for below that i use a brand new blade every time!

When i used to use a razor on the whole area, i found that if i used rubbing alcohol on the area after, i didn't have as much of a problem. Like aftershave. But i wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart. LOL

Good luck to you

I used to have the same problem. I have found that it is best not to shave against the grain, every time I did I would get razor bumps. Always shave in the same direction that your hair grows. Another good thing to use besides the razor is the beard & mustach trimmer.

rain,

Rinse with the blade with cold water not hot. That works for my neck, but your skin might be more sensative there.

Wow,

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies!

sub4hire: i was under the impression that you were supposed to use a DULL blade for shaving publc hair! When i've tried using a new blade, i invaribly wind up getting nicked...OUCH!

GoddessMarissa may be onto something- which i had NOT considered, and that is shaving WITH the grain! ahhhh

-Also, i have tried using Nair, but that burns like H*ll! Perhaps i should try the nads as a last resort....

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Noooooo. Use a fresh blade (especially if you're prone to rash). Be a bit more careful, dear! <smile> Also, I found that I had significantly less nicking problems when I switched to the triple blade razors. They still have to be sharp, though.

Going with the grain is a very good idea, especially for people with very sensitive skin.

Keep hanging in there, a few months really isn't that long (although I know that it seems like it). You'll find the combination that works best for you.

Good luck with it.

I have a question about Nads: I was told that for Nads to work, the hair had to be at least 1/8" long. I really don't want to be nubby that long between waxings.

My daughter in law has been using some lotion by Jergens (I believe) that actually minimizes body hair. It does something to the hair at the source of growth over a period of time, and it actually discourages regrowth, and minimizes the hair itself as it does this. She had some thick hairs on her face that have literally disappeared (previously she had to pluck daily, and now she can't even find them!). I'm thinking this may be the way to go.

Hmm where did that quote from me come from since I never said it? I've re-read all posts and it was never even posted at all.

Lay Beckett,
Nads works...its the same as waxing. I personally see waxing as fruitless. Waxing does rip the hair out by the root. There by making it grow in during a longer period of time. However, as I have noticed with myself. Hair grows at different lengths at different times. So I could wax today. Have nubs tomorrow. Its pointless. I guess if I ever allowed a forest of hair then waxed it may be different. I feel too dirty to do that though.

sub4hire,

Sorry for the confusion, you didn't say to use a dull blade, HOWEVER, i was told by my room mate or someone else, that i should...that's what i meant.

i recently picked up the Noxema triple blades and some shaving gel, so, i'll see what happens.

Thanks all, again, for the advice!

Here is my recommendation after many years of painstaking research and many $$$$$
Nothing less than a Mach 3 turbo will do, use a fresh razor each time.
Only use King of Shaves Gel with menthol, it feels lovely and cool afterwards. (Target)
12 hours after the shave (not before, it stings, though some of you might like to suffer for your Dom/mes pleasure) you should dab with Tendskin (purchase online)
If that doesn't work for you, nothing will.

I do believe rain was responding to your post (and Marissa's), not quoting you. I was responding to her reply. At least that's how the threads read on my computer. I don't believe anyone ever suggested that you said it.

MizSuz,

Wow, thanks for the clarification!

Perhaps this would be an opportune time to let folks know the difference between Estrict and Estring?

Seriously though, thank you!

I just found myself trying to imagine shaving a woman's genitals with a straight razor...and kind of got lost in the thought for a moment...

hahaha thanks for the visual!

That reminded me of being in Japan touring with my band. I decided to get a shave from a barber there. He used a straight razor. Everything was fine until I walked out in to the cold air. The wind hit my face and the pain was incredible! And I had all these tiny cuts on my face. Lol.
Suz, you may have stumbled on to something there.
