All I want to know is...

Why is it racist to have an all white college....but to have an all black college is perfectly ok?

(Someone explain that fucking shit to me puhleaaase!!!!!)

       The argument for this is to redefine rascism.  It isn't enough to simply hate another person because of their skin color, you have to have power to back it up.  And since Blacks have no power in America (does anybody other than me see the irony of such a stereotype?) it is impossible for a person of color to be a rascist.

In the USA it is perfectly legal to say racism is legal, as long as the minority is doing it. Though I really don't think you can call it a minority when the census has found the follow:

"According to the 2000 census, the United States has 31 ethnic groups with at least one million members each, with numerous others represented in smaller numbers. As of 2005, four states (California, Hawaii, New Mexico and Texas) have "minority-majorities," where non-Hispanic whites are not a majority of their state's population."

But reverse rasicm can be felt all through the land.   Black college funds, housing, and even hell they have their own video at the welfare office.

I have never been a racist person though recently I have been feeling that way.  I have several black friends and some are the best people I know. Though for the most part; as I work in security every time I ask a black person for identification or what they are doing they begin screaming Racism. When is it enough!

When will equality but just that.  Everyone even, no one above or below.   If one race can have it why can't any other. There is No white history month, No white male college fund. There is no Italian or Polish check mark on the SAT test. 

Even beyond that I have a very uncanny resemblence to having Middle Eastern blood in me, and I have had some of the rudest things said to me.  They don't get any better when I mention I am Revend either.

Sorry was just ranting here. I do not intend to upset anyone but this is asking for a full opinion and I have left mine.

Also I am a tree-hugging pagan, who homeschools, is certain the goverment is evil (I can send links to other information if interested), card carrying PETA member, and I own a 200lb dog. So I know I am not the typical america. I am a fringe surviver who believes the world will eventually blow up from our own intervention. Before anyone askes yes I own survival gear and a gun. See told ya. Typical crazy hippie type, kind of odd when WE stop being a minority.

Historically black universities were started when blacks weren't admitted into most universities.  These days they are not all 100% black students or faculty, nor do they descriminate against white students.  Go ahead and apply to one (if you have the academic's to get into one).

Yes there are scolarships available for people of european-american descent.  Not to mention the Daughters of the Revolution scholarships.

this part disturbed me. why? because unless you have been followed around a department store or an exclusive shop with store security behind your every move, you wouldn't understand why a black person would automatically think racism.

now my question to you is, do you single out a black person asking for their identification and/or what are they doing OR do you also ask a white, hispanic, etc person the same thing?  merely curious.

back to the OP's concern, if you would remember learning in history, anyone caught teaching a Negro person how to read and write was lynched because it was against the law in the Southern states. so Black people had to establish their own colleges/universities to obtain a higher education so they could become teachers, lawyers, doctors etc to aid in the betterment of the race and to receive the same services as the Whites did.

Xavier and Grambling Universities...just off the top of my head, offer scholarships to white students. If that's not a hand extended in partnership, I don't know what is.
 
The history is too new and people are too blinded to see past color. If it wasn't color, it would be something else to cause division.
 
In the end, someone always wants to feel like they are better than someone else even if it is something as trifling as skin color or religion.

I work in confinement and experience the same thing. Every time you make a complaint about an inmates behavior, they play the race card.

I had this happen just three days ago. I was supervising an inmate on suicide watch (what we call SPC.) SPCs do not get spoons or hard trays with their meals...they get a styrofoam tray and break off a piece of the styrofoam to use as a utensil. This is standard operating procedure.

Well this particular SPC (a black man) throws a fit because I won't give him a spoon to eat with. I explain that SPCs can't have spoons. He proceeds to call me a racist bitch and say that "If I was a white man, you'd give me one!". Um, no, I wouldn't. SPCS DON'T GET SPOONS, end of story. He demands that I call the Sgt. I call the sgt on the phone, Sgt says "no spoon."  I tell the inmate this. "Well your sergeants probably a racist asshole too!" I offer to let the inmate speak personally with the Sgt. I call the sgt to come to my location. He shows up in front of the inmates cell. Inmate's jaw drops because guess what? My sgt is black! I say, "Sgt. P, I think you should know that Inmate M. thinks you're a racist asshole, but he'd like to speak with you anyway!"

Stuff like this happens all the time...anytime you discipline one or gripe at one, it's cause you're a racist!

Right...understood...but my grandfather never owned a slave.

My father never owned a slave.

I never owned a slave (as in the perjorative).

The general populace (back then, largely non black) in the 60's said "this ain't right...what can we do to change it?" and we (the public...you and I) said...."let's fix this so everyone has a shot" because we as a group got our asses kicked because we weren't "doing enough"....and today Tavis Smiley, today's black Messiah, tells us that we were fucked up because we kept the black population "beholding".

Ya know....it ain't right.  We're fucked if we attempt to purport abundant options to enable someone to grow....and we're fucked if we offer anything at all.

Here's the truth (I didn't make this shit up by the way):

Asians, in less than 1 generation. have kids going to Harvard or becoming doctors.  (And they buy 7-11's to get their kids there).

And they excell at math...consistantly.  (And for the record...Americans...of any race...don't).

Persians put their kids through college, and no one in their group complains about how they "Uncle Tom" themselves to get ahead.

Indians (as in from India) come here, and in 8 years....they start software firms, using their compatriots from the homeland and sell us ingenius solutions to problems that if our kids had any modicum of math skills, they could have solved.

The Chinese are eating our lunch in every industry.

Sorry...but I'm a smidge tired of hearing why (pick a group) is being fucked over.

Those that win...chose to win.

Regardless of class or indigenous subculture.

Uncle Tom died in the 1800's.

Hmm... Weyull Maybe I dont count... half the time I go around claiming to be a part of the Purple People Eater race...and the other half, Im either a South African Princess, or a British lady of the court....... My skin is as brown as anyone's .. I got a minority scholarship, I have a white male slave... I generally abstain from the use of any demoralizing and demeaning words.. Oh... and if a black person uses the "N" word, they get yelled at and kicked just as hard as anyone else who uses it around Me. blacks can be just as racist as whites, and anyone else for that matter. The sad thing is that people still see color.... oh well..give it a few years, well all be so mixed up, we'll all be.in the words of the LOVERLY Draco Malfoy ... Mudbloods.... Gotta love harry potter....whenever something bad happens, you say " bloody hell" whenever someones a wanker, you call them a "ruddy git"
They dont have race issues... LOL Maybe it's just Me.... but I think the world needs to grow up. Pip Pip and Cheerio...

I left the entire post in because I think this whole thread is obviously some gripe about historically black universities that you seem hell bent on doing despite what facts people present (like the fact that they have scholarships for whites...have white faculty and students).  Anyone with a basic grasp on the English language could tell that sambamanslilgirl was speaking in past tense, not about the current reasons that historically black universities exist.

who said anything about owning a Black slave in the 20th and 21st century? i'm talking about the establishment of Black colleges/universities in the late 19th century. the general populace notion of  "this isn't right" has been debated long before the 60s and the Civil War ...try during the American Revolutionary War when Ben Franklin established the first abolitionist society or  the very original draft of the Declaration of Independence included the releasing of Black slaves (only to be later stuck down by the Southern colonies).

I have a friend that lives in Atlanta that encouraged me to try to get into Spellman University as a White minority... so it DOES go both ways... just thought I would point out that Black colleges are not just for Black people.

i would like to underline this and put exclamation points next to it.

my sister went to an hbcu (florida a&m). she took all kind of shit over it from both black and white people, and she was like one of two or three white people in most of her classes, but she wouldn't have traded it for the world. around here, a lot of white people will go to fam because it has a good pharmacy school or is better in some other department than the other options (although the reverse happens as well).

Okay.  I went to a HBCU.  It's a very small, private college.  Though it is a HBCU, it is not, any way, limited to blacks students.  Nor is it limited to black teachers, faculty, security guards, whatever.  As it has been mentioned before, back in ye old'n days, it was simply unheard of for blacks to be educated, let alone integrated with whites in school.  So people came together and formed schools that eventually stepped over that segregated line, but kept its foundation, its roots, its rich natural history of "firsts" (or whatever the case may be) strong. 

That having been said, I just want to point out that because my school specifically wished for things to remain fair, not only were UNCF scholarships (I myself having received such a scholarship) offered to blacks, but they were offered to whoever was eligible.  And, needless to say, students that weren't black went for it--and won.  Of course, some sponsors listed their scholarships as "African American Youth....(insert name HERE) Scholarship."  In the description and requirements, it specifically listed black students as the primary target for the scholarship.  But, as my school gives equal opportunity to everyone, there were also scholarships posted that were targeted towards other races as well.  Interestingly enough, there were no titles that read, "Caucasian Leadership Scholarship," or, "White Folks Scholarship" or anything like that.  There were sponsors that specifically put racial headings and titles, along with requirements...and then there were sponsors that didn't.

I'm curious.  What's "one" exactly?  No matter.

The point is that we have to change our way of thinking.  Just because I'm a black woman doesn't mean that I'm expecting my forty acres and a mule.  Just because I'm a black woman doesn't mean that I demand that the white people of the world cater to me on account of historical events that have happened to my black female ancestors.  And just because I'm a black woman doesn't mean that I fall into (or will fall into) what some will consider the average, run-of-the-mill stereotypical behaviors associated with various categories of life, including theoretical aspects of thought process.

Until we start thinking that a school is just a school, and its purpose is for the higher education and betterment of any student, then we're just as blank as we were back then--and I mean this for everyone.

Oh the poor white people...boo fucking hoo...If you are white and in this country and you haven't got yourself a piece of the pie well just look in the mirror....Racism is alive  and well....We have learned to disguise it, we replace the word, nigger,coon  or colored, with African American but all you have to do is listen and the people who don't get it will reveal themselves in time...

I am now of the belief that something has to be done and pronto about our public edcuation system...We have changed segregation into paying for our education through property taxes....Lets look at Chicago Public School system ...( this is a little dated and I'm pulling these numbers from memory but I believe they are accurate today)
In the suburbs around Chicago,predominately white, it is not uncommon for an allotment of close to TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS is spent per child who is attending high school if you look in urban areas this number falls down to less than $5,000 per student....Limited facilities, no computers for training as well as some fairly poor and burned out teachers.....What is remotely fair or equal in providing this type of an education.

Education is not a right in this country...There has been talk about making an amendment that would require all to have access to the "same" education....If we are going to take the time to create an amendment that would ban gay marriage maybe it is time to consider one that actually has merit.

It is true that many different peoples have come to the U.S. and found success, Gris actually addressed this in his rant...However if you look at the fate of the peoples that have  beared the brunt of the historical racism of this country the results are disparagingly tragic...Both the Blacks as well as the Native Americans have not enjoyed the success of other "immigrants" who have reached our shores.

Anyone who bitches about the reverse racism suck it up! For Christ sake...You were born the "right" color, if you still don't get it...Then complain.  Waaaah! The Black people have their own award show! Waaaah! The black people have their own beauty pageant....Waaaaaah!.....The Black people have Historic black colleges.....Waaaaah!
