Awesome, then one can only assume you have invested in gold or diamonds and they are not in a bank, but under your bed and of course you own nothing based on any country's monetary system.

Sorry SirKenin, but I have to disagree with this completly. I make dayum good money at what I do, but I would give it up in a heartbeat if asked to. And I am neither deranged nor desperate.

As in all these types of discussion people tend to give reasons to support the status quo in their lives. It is this that makes me wonder when I meet someone new whether they are really into a lifestyle thing or whether they want to indulge their sexual fantasies. Maybe the two are the same thing, who knows? Certainly most submissives I meet are what I call part-time hobbyist submissives who like to be submissive in a scene and then afterwards get on being in control of their vanilla lives. That to me is merely sexual indulgence, I don't see nothing wrong in that but let's be honest about what it is and what it isn't and it's not a lifestyle thing.

I agree with you and you just described me in a nut shell. I don't pretend to be submissive...I'm a kinky person enjoying their fantasies, and I have no interest in lifestyle bdsm. I do think a person should be clear about this sort of thing up front. For me, it's made it very difficult to find a new partner, but I'd rather be alone than with someone who doesn't mesh with what I'm looking for. Personally, I'm probably the most selfish "sub" you'll ever meet! I have no interest in living for somebody else (and any man who tries to change my mind on ANYTHING quickly discovers that it is an exercise in futility.) I'm all for kink , but I'm not living for somebody else (and certainly not giving up my career, home, etc!)

It's ok about the quoting issue, lol!

I don't know if you are familiar with this, but collars are a popular fashion statement among people my age, even if they have never heard of bdsm. I was wearing collars when I was 16 and never heard of bdsm until I was about 19. So, yeah, a picture of a person wearing a collar doesn't necessarily indicate their bdsm status. I wear collars because they're cute and I like goth clothes :)

Au contraire..... I’m actually quite diversified, with my main focus being in real property, and more specifically, multiple and single family housing units with zero debt service – When I turn them, I finance them myself with a nice down for ten to fifteen years – I love interest payments and I don’t like when they default, but it happens – My gain.

The other thing I like to play with is : Highly abstract forms of art, as they have great liquidity and are basically recession proof, because collectors rarely run out of money for their favorite passion. If you have good connections, know what you’re buying and understand the whole issue that surrounds provenance and authenticity, it’s not hard to make over thousand percent on your money. But I like the art, so unless it’s something I lose interest in… I usually hold on to the pieces for a while.

I also love the market, but I only play in special niches that I really understand and know how to thoroughly analyze.

Hell... back in October I posted on this very message board with one of my finest picks, Krispy Kreme Donuts, when they were floating around at all time low, slightly above five dollars. I told Blktallfullfig back in early August {In a personal message} and my favorite other Dominant lady {Who is not here right now} to take some of their retirement money and buy a little Krispy Kreme { Not the Donuts *wink* }. Since then... the stock has shown great movement and nearly doubled. And will continue to rise as they restructure and the population moves away from the ''Atkin’s craze''.

Would I give up my career? Absolutely not. I need to work. I need to make friends and accomplish things. I need to give my competitive streak a bit of room to run around.

I am sorry to hear that. A good job in today's market is not easy to come by. He better be both well hung and filthy stinking rich to foot your bill if you are willing to do that for him...

i am in a different situation; i have a pension; and am allowed a certain level of earned income above that.  If asked not to work, especially not in my field (law) i would obey.  i can even see myself getting into another field (teaching, writing) to supplement income w/o actually having clients.  However, i've never been asked  for this and do not expect to be; rather, a Dom might limit the type of cases i take on.

...but I'm interested to hear what female subs say as well.

Are you willing to give up (or pause) your career in order to be in a service position full time?

Not only willing, but able and thankful for giving up several very lucrative offers and "financially smart" career moves over the last 20 years in exchange for largely thankless, "future"less, non-salaried service to a variety of individuals and organizations.  It has been a "priceless" exchange.

If so, are you worried about your earning potential should you ever have to return to work? Do you worry about not being able to accumulate skills in your field?

No.  this slave is far from a one-trick-pony, and is not allowed to worry, by herself or Master!  this slave has a myriad of marketable skills, even MORE-SO from all the time that has been spent gaining skills as an unpaid apprentice, volunteer or through low or no cost classes provided through community organizations in a variety of fields, not ALL service related.

Do you worry about feeling any lack of self worth if your duties are strictly related to homemaking, housecleaning, or taking care of errands (again -- aimed toward men: Do you feel emasculated when your male friends have jobs/careers and you do not?How do you address that)?

No.  this slave does not put a monetary value on her own SELF-worth.  in this slave's mind, she IS, indeed priceless, hmmmm....that could just very well be the effects of Emperor Merc's Ultimate Mind-meld Technique, though!!

Would you be bored?

the most boring times this slave has ever endured have been OUTSIDE the home, at a good paying job, or in a classroom with an uninspiring incompetent teacher, or at a seminar or excursion that promised one thing, but the reality was ALL illusion, or a club full of drunks, or en route on the train or in the car on the WAY to the boring event, etc.  as the years have gone by, these times are now few and far between, as this slave has learned to appreciate the moments, stop and smell the roses, if you will, BE fully present.  this slave is presently, never bored.

luckily, this slave was brought up in a very sheltered and closed environment, with LOTS of time spent on learning to amuse oneself, entertain oneself and edify oneself without the direct instruction of or even interaction with others for long periods of time.  this slave couldn't possibly be bored in Master's home~are you kidding?  there isn't a day that goes by that this slave doesn't wish she had just a few more hours at home to work on projects for Master, putter in the garden, finish that book, try out that new recipe, sketch the next idea that's been percolating in this slave's brain, say another prayer, learn a little bit more, do MORE for Master,...but sleep must come at some point, (Master insists on it!!!) and thankfully, before this slave can notice, another day is here, ripe with possibilities, responsibilities, rituals, surprises and things to do before Master gets home!!!

as usual.. I loved your post

Very well stated.

I'm not a slave/sub at this moment.. but I like staying at home. I am extremely capable of self-entertainment and never find enough hours in the day to get done what I want done.

Also when one partner stays at home.. it just makes vacations, trips, and free-time much more readily available.

Some people just aren't cut out for "careers".. and some would die without one (and maybe not by their own hand either). My best friend has to work. If she doesn't, she gets way too bored. Which is a problem for her, and those around her. Yet there are others, who just can't sink their teeth into career-life. No matter what job or career path they choose, they feel empty and bored. Some just aren't productive in a "work" environment. Not that they can't "pull off" a successful career or hold a good job, but it just doesn't make them happy.

This is aimed toward male subs (as they are often seen as the breadwinners) but I'm interested to hear what female subs say as well.

Are you willing to give up (or pause) your career in order to be in a service position full time? If so, are you worried about your earning potential should you ever have to return to work? Do you worry about not being able to accumulate skills in your field?

Do you worry about feeling any lack of self worth if your duties are strictly related to homemaking, housecleaning, or taking care of errands (again -- aimed toward men: Do you feel emasculated when your male friends have jobs/careers and you do not?How do you address that)?

For sub men that have a career/job right now, would you be willing to give it up -- for good -- in order to be a stay at home submissive for the long term? Would you be bored?

Akasha

At the risk of sounding indecisive, I think the response is "it depends."

Most importantly, it depends on the level of commitment in the relationship.  Is this a long term marriage, where her money is his money, such that, should the relationship end, the non-working spouse has the right to be taken care of financially?

Second, it depends on how much the working partner makes.

Third, it depends on how much both partners perceive they need to be happy.

If the answer is right to each of these (and others), a submissive should be willing to trust his dominant's decision about this aspect of their life together.

Regards,  ATP

For me this is not a question of money or being bored. I have a career that is actually of a calling and I do not think I could ever give it up. I have always said that I would never give my calling up for a man. However, the thought of being owned by a "Master" has sent me into a sub frenzy (I just learned this term) over the past week. Reading hundreds of posts about how happy subs are to be owned has left me thinking, "I want that!" I am super new to this and I am mindful about rushing into anything I pray that I will be able take it slowly and discover where I fit into all this.

So maybe I could give it all up. I don't know.

akasha you consistently ask the most thought provoking intelligent questions...., what a mind you have.

my answer: yes i am open to it but it would have to be one hell of a deal because i make good money at my art, my art feeds my soul and lots of community projects, and i absolutely love my staff, and i could not just leave them cold turkey.

I didn't have a career to give up.  I spent 23 years as a farmer's wife, and when the marriage ended I worked part time as a teacher's aide and then did work experience in an office for the dole (unemployment).  I was in my mid 40s at that time and hadn't had a paying job apart from the teacher aide one, although I did the accounts etc for the farm.

I am now Sir's full time carer and get a pension from the Australian government.  If His health were better I would probably be working, but it's not possible because His health varies so much from day to day.  I'm saving the government hundreds of thousands of dollars - He would be spending a LOT more time at the hospital if I wasn't taking care of Him.  I'm virtually an unqualified nurse aide.  I take blood pressures, set up/strip down a haemodialysis machine, and give meds both by injection and in pill form.

If anything happens to Sir, I will probably consider taking up some form of medical career, maybe as a nurse/nurse aide or medical receptionist
