When He collared me, we discussed the voting issue. I agree that He has every right to tell me how to vote, He said He would be unlikely to, esp. in a national election (I think His words are 'where there isn't any real difference between one and the other, anyway), more likely to for a referendum, where we know in advace we will disagree.
Several weeks ago I asked him about that, in regard to the upcoming election. He said He was still undecided, but that, once decided, He would be telling me how to vote.
Okay, I'm fine with that. He knows who my chosen canadate would be, He is leaning strongly the other way.
My question is, if He is planning to tell me how to vote, why do I have to watch the speeches and debates that He keeps having me watch with Him?
Yes, I know you don't know the answer, and I know to ask Him, I am just blowing off a little steam (otherwise, my asking is not going to be as respectful as I might wish it to be), and, thought it would be interesting if other Dominants had views on the topic, as well.

There is only one reason to watch and pay attention, it is because your Master says he wants you to. It is because it pleases him to have you watch, any other questions?

Are you saying that youll go into that booth...and press lever A...or fill in the spot or whatever...without regard for your own opinion about what is good for your country?
i know this sounds like im judging...i am NOT....i am literally curious.

i suppose if your literally saying that you are going to do what you said you are going to do...and i believe that you are....
the only reason to watch the debates and whatnot is to please him so he can discuss them with you in detail. But i have to say, that if all he wants is his own opinion repeated back to him, you could be better serving him by doing other duties while he speaks into the bathroom mirror.

This could be a deal breaker for me, I feel so strongly about the elections.. Seeing as He hasn't made up His mind, maybe by watching the debates and news stories you two can have some great discussions on *cough* His choice.. and why He made that choice. It is a pretty exciting (and scary) time we are going through.
I wish I was American so I could vote Obama !!

sorry, im not usually one for saying this, but thats really annoying!

im totally with persephonee on this one.

if your D wants you to listen to the arguments, presumably its to get you to come around to his way of voting, ie., he doesnt rate your political standpoint.

its one thing to give your submission to him as a valid part of his life, its quite another to give up your right to a valid vote of your own. its a basic human right, people have lost their lives fighting for it and wars have raged simply because it is a moment in the history of a country that means something. its also something that makes democracy great and sustains the 'freedom' of each individual to serve their country.

it would be a deal breaker for me too.

im curious, is it normal for a slave to give up her right to vote. are her rights so completely abolished by slavery that she isnt allowed a political stance atall.

i need to finish my cmail to you asking you about your horse...but thats an aside.

i think personally that its not anyones place to tell the op that she shouldnt do as she has agreed to do...in abstract theory....but in reality and in this time in history, i firmly think that if a person is eligible to vote that wiitwd should not come into play. i was floored in another thread by some BDSM theory that flew completely over my lil head seconds before i found this post and was at least relieved to know my own heart and mind in this thread.
But i honestly wasnt attacking her for her choice. Unfortunately in this country there are folks who can vote and dont...there are folks that i am related to that vote in line with their SO's without regard for their own opinion....
Tis a free country...so we are told...and to each her own.
Its just such an important time to have everyones voice heard (even if that thought in itself is fallicy).

Interesting. Do you find that line of thinking to be effective in your dynamic regarding things like....

a) Amputations
b) Selling your slave's children to the circus
c) Taking over their bank accounts and account numbers
d) "Hey, put your foot in this bucket of water and stick this knife in that electrical outlet"

Seriously, unless it's something where the reasoning behind the command is obvious like with "Do the dishes in the sink" and you have reasonable, legitimate questions or concerns, then the inability to voice them leans more toward a problem of "communication issues" rather than the pinnacle of ego-fueled super dominance.

Sorry to go off on a rant and maybe we'll just have to agree to disagree, but "Do it because I said so" is slightly below "Disobey me once and I throw you to the curb" on my list of flawed dominant clichés.

Good thing I am not strongly opinionated, huh?

i am going put my personal views to the side. You seem to be alright with giving him the control over who to vote for, so be it. Watching the debate with him is something he also wants from you. So be it! If you are willing to let him control your vote why would you even question watching a debate?

persephonee, i agree totally that its not for me or anyone else to interfere and i did struggle with myself a bit when i was writing that, but, i also feel vehemently that there are one or two things in this life that should remain of our own free will and choice. voting is one of them.

there is something inherently wrong with taking away a persons right to vote. sorry tsatske (youre a lovely girl and im honestly not having a dig, well i am, but... ill shutup)

True...though the very idea, to me, of a master/mistress/whatever controling someone else's vote in a national election that could affect the entire country sort of negates the "slave with a mind and a brain" in my book.

Yes, and that is the true answer, and I know it. Inspite of how much I have offended a few with the thought that He would tell me how to vote, it is clear to me that He values my oppinion.
We have open discussions which include heated debate, and also a lot of teasing going back and forth about our very different political views.
He can't help himself. He's a Yankee Carpet bagger from Texas, what do you expect?

Yes, I am allowed to ask questions of others in the lifestyle. He, in fact, is surprised by how circumspect I feel the need to be. For instance, when a sisterslave was making me want to pull my roots out by the hair, one of my issues was I had no where I felt I could talk about it, since almost all members of our social group belong to CM - I think most don't read the forums, but how can i KNOW that? I joined a sub support group to have a place to talk, only to discover, that I had found the GREATEST online group I could imagine, made up entirely of TPE real time slaves, but, that, unfortunatly - all the members of our social group belonged there. (well, you know what i mean, all the slaves)

I do not air dirty laundry in public. Whine every now and then a little bit? sure. I am not really questioning His authority to order me to watch the damn debates. Honestly, I am just whining, because, with my current job hours, my time to play on the computer/watch tv/clean the house/engage in hobbies/art/painting, ect/talk on the phone - whatever - is done to an hour in the morning and an hour or so at night. (reading did not make that list because, honestly, i do get a chance to do that at work, on some days). So I am just whining about using my hour at night to watch some idiots yell at each other about to whom (instead of even asking rather) they should give MY money away. that's all.
