could someone please tell me the difference between a sub, and a slave?

WyckedMystress -> RE: the difference of a slave and sub (7/26/2007 6:09:47 AM)

this is a tough one to answer as the terms could mean something different for everyone and it often somethign personal between a sub/slave and his/her Dom/me.

I know this has been asked on here before so maybe it is worth searching.  Another way is to search the internet try a search like 'slave v sub BDSM'

Only you and your partner can decide what label to give yourself.  If you are not sure how to present yourself in your profile, consider saying, generally, who you are without a label.  You can discuss what you feel is your "place" in the life of a dominant woman.

Somewhere in my multitude of journal entries on my profile I go in depth about slave vs. sub issues because I found I don't want a submissive.  I don't want a slave.  I want a lovely mixture of both aspects.  But those are MY definition of sub and slave; not anyone else's.

As you approach dominant women tell them you are slightly conflicted as to what your "orientation" is and could she please help you understand them as she understands them so you are both on the same page.

No amount of research will ever give you a total and complete answer when it comes to defining any term in what it is that we do.

The spelling.

There are so many answers to this one that you're only going to get someone's opinion, not an actual difference. To some, it's the same thing. To others, they're completely different. One is superior to the other. They are both superior to each other. Neither is better or worse than the other. Part of being on the Internet means accepting that semantics are more important than actual concepts. Be what you want to be, and search out what you want to find. Bogging it down with semantic definitions of words will cause you to generally never find what you are seeking because then you have to conform or have someone else conform to specific definitions.

What's the difference between an orange and a grapefruit? It can be as subtle as that.

What's the difference between an orange and an apple? It can be as obvious as that.

I suggest you try and figure out who YOU are.

Thank you all for your replys, and I believe, it will depend on my Mistress or Master as what they will want of me.

Thank you all

Just keep in mind that it is also what your own concept of what a slave is or what a sub is.

I think everyone should ask you.

The first line in your profile "I am a male slave". Your name, 'will be a good slave', is another reference.

What does it mean to you? Why did you use the term 'slave' versus 'sub' in your profile and your name? Whatever reason you have, whatever definition you had in mind when you used it, is correct - for YOU.

That's the fundamental difference, your definition of those terms and everyone else's. Of course I have an absolute and clear definition of the terms and distinguishes them clearly. However, in only applies to me and my relationship.

So, what does it mean to you? What is the distinction you have in mind? If you have none and need to define it for yourself, or can't define and distinguish until withing a relationship in order to have 'context' - also not reason to worry.

Don't worry about terms and/or other peoples definitions of them any more than you worry about what other people think. Define them for yourself, define yourself.

Good luck - have fun!

My gut reaction is: NO

Because there is no absolute or universally accepted idea of what the difference is.

I have my own and it is applied to my household. Whenever I use the words sub or slave I am referring to my our definitions -- I try to include that to some degree when I express my opinions.

MHOO314 -> RE: the difference of a slave and sub (7/26/2007 9:27:52 AM)

Yes, we see this question tons of times, and it is a very emotional one---what I give you is MY practice only, no text book, no one elses, just Mine----what I do say though is it boils down to what you and your Dominant agree to---and don't get hung on terms---puhleez---that can kill a dynamic quickly---

So here goes: A slave to Me, serves and attends with out question---they live and exist in the third person--the ownership is just that, ownership--with three distinct levels--each one deeper than the preceeding---as with any of our activities, ownership is only as good as the commitment of both parties.

Submissive---commitment but not the level of ownership---submissives usually have an active agenda of wants needs and desires---

AGAIN, do not flame Me, we these are MY values only---there are as many variations as there are couples---IMHO

skareamoos -> RE: the difference of a slave and sub (7/26/2007 9:53:26 AM)

There is no single definition, but rather a myriad (or more), in fact probably one for every individual relationship that exists.  Each pair must set its own standards.  (I hope that you find the right pairing to match your own.)
